xbox live

sorry guys...it seems like ask questions week for me...haha . last night i bought the xbox starter kit thinking i would go live within minutes, but it turns out im having a hard time connecting to xbox live. i go through the connection set up: Cables connected, IP Settings configured, DNS resolved, but the last one says Xbox Live not found. i have a dsl service with a modem built in router, so either my router doesnt like this, or my service provider are not compatible with xbox live. anyone have any thoughts on this.
