actually holding the reset button till the blue eject light turns on will make the ps2 enter psx/dvd mode
to boot ps2 backups with a magic3.1 just tab the reset button once the disc tray closes with the disc inside of course can you play psx backups? try to boot a dvd in ps2 mode to see what happens
