Question Problem writing DVD image

I have been trying to write a 3.5 gig image onto a DVD-RW. The Image was made using "Record Now Max" Every time I use my Pioneer 105 to try this, it locks my machine up and I have to reset it. I have tried writing at different speeds and using other software, but the furthest I seem to get is about 30% done. The DVD-RW is a Verbatim, although I have attempted to do it with Unbranded 4x Ritek, but it still fails. I can back up my other films without a problem. I m using WinXP pro and my system spec's are in my sig. Can anyone help?

BTW - Could heat be a problem? I think my machine is running a little hot.
