"ripper chip" Vice city & Fifa loading problems

Has anyone else had problems with these games (dvd-r) loading with the ripper chip ?

Vice city frequently displays "error reading vice city disc"
or buildings and railings suddenly appear or disappear.

Fifa 2003 is just slow at loading compaired to the original.

I use 2x ritek dvd-r , which for any other backup are fine.

i have 2 ps2's, one with "the Ripper" and one with "Messiah2"

Messiah 2 does not show these characteristics during gameplay
so is the problem with the ripper chip. i.e. overheating perhaps?
If so, what can i do to keep "the ripper" cooler ?

help please.
