I see no reason why copy and paste will not work. The protection does not prevent this from working.
What error do you get? Is your cd a copy or original? As an aside, you can try one of many file utilities which will copy files from one place to another. A good source of free/shareware is www.cnet.com Personally, I use WinOnCd for file copying to/from cd
