how long should it take to spin up a cdr disc?

hello chaps! I have just bought a cyberdrive cw058 re-writer its a 32x12x48x, it came bundled with nero and I am having an awful time with it! It writes the discs ok (mainly jpegs, programs etc.) but when I try to read the discs in my cd rom (artec 54x) they lock my system while the led light on the front of the drive goes crazy (the mouse curser locks and alt, ctrl, del doesnt give the end task box)....I thought that maybe the drive cant read high speed cdr's or cdrw's but the same happens to a lesser extent when I put them in the cyberdrive (the drive that burned them in the first place!!) it takes about a minute to recognise the disc. Another problem arose today as well, nero failed on a disc write a few times saying "queing failed" and to make things worse DMA was switched off on my writer in device manager with no way to turn it back on (running win xp) it stays on PIO mode....the result is that the data buffer empties to 20-30% when writing....BOOOOOOO, I am at a loss for what to do (I tried easy cd creator 5.1 and the same thing happens to the discs (takes an age to spin up )...can anyone help?????? cheers!!

you dont need to become unfriendly...

i highly recommend you: return that cyberdrive and get one of the 'newer' lite-ons ! the 24x, 32x and 40x models are cheap, fast and they burn everything! or if you want a real quality-product get the new plextor 40x which is of course more expensive.

and for your dma-problem: take a look at the bios, maybe dma is switched off there, if this is the case then even win xp can not activate dma. always check the bios first and after that your OS !

Like was said before, try to return your drive. Most everybody here lives and dies by lite-on. I personally rec. the LG GCE-8320B.
Its fast, its cheap, and it will burn anything you throw at it...
Hope this helps!!!!
