H to the izzO.. PS2 Power Supply Question

I've got a V9 that's toast. It keeps blowing the Power Supply Fuse when flipping the power switch.. So I figure the supply is toast. I opened it up couldn't find any shorts or anything on the supply itself.

The only other suspect which i'm not really concerned about is the ribbon going to the controller input module. There's a lead that seems to have been pulled up (I think its just the ground shielding) from someone inserting the the ribbon not so carefully.

Anyway so shopping around for a new PSU I am seeing the ones on every site look completely different and have a hell of a lot less components on them then the stock supply.. Obviously they're third party units and redesigned but do they work as well?? Any problems with them? 100% Compatible?
