Why wait two weeks before requesting a no-CD patch?

Hi guys, mainly admins,

I'd like to mention that, in my opinion, it's not very fair to bash newbies about being impatient and tell them that they should wait for two weeks when the forum rules only state that people are supposed "to wait [for] a reasonable amount of time". So, if I may ask the admins to, please, add the "two weeks" _explicitly_ into the forum rules. Thanks in advance,

Joe

Yeah, that used to be the case, in the old set of rules... When we, the present mod team, came on board, it was decided to relax that rule a bit. I guess its about time that Two Week thing was put back in place.

Notice that in practice this won't change a thing. Whether we deliberately announce a two week period or not, about 95% of newbies will still make a first post without ever even considering reading the rules first. Alas, that's basic human nature I guess. But hey, whatever makes you happy, Joe

Yes we thought two weeks was a bit strict so changed the wording to "reasonable amount of time". The cracks will appear on GCW ASAP, no amount of pleading and begging on the forums will make it happen quicker.

It can be annoying see one post wonders asking for the crack 3minutes from its release, or even just after an official patch is released.

Hi Ghosthacker,

Thank you for your answer very much. However, your "no amount of pleading and begging on the forums will make it happen quicker" sentence is _exactly_ what I was thinking and what my second request would be aimed at.

It annoys me quite a lot that a "reasonable amount of" posts are requests that fall into the category you mentioned and I quoted above. In other words, the signal/noise ratio is getting too low which results in reading too many redundant posts, thus wasting too much time with checking out posts, trying to help people whose problem _is_ genuine and deserves help.

I'm not saying that requesting no-CD patches, trainers and other stuff should be banned completely on the forum - as it is great to be able to request stuff for _really_ old games here! - but some restrictions should be made and those restrictions properly described in the forum rules so that everyone - who reads them at all - may clearly understand them. I have no concrete ideas about this at the moment, though... Thanks for listening,

Joe
