I just installed Battlefield Vietnam and updated it to v1.02. However, when I go to run it by double-clicking on BFVietnam.exe, the game does absolutely nothing: no error message or dialog box. The dedicated server executable runs fine though.
The EA technical support website has absolutely nothing that relates to this problem. The game does run when I replace BOTH the mod.dll and BFVietnam.exe files with cracked ones, but I don't like the idea of paying for a game and only being able to run it using a crack especially since this game is frequently updated and cracks are not immediate. I have the latest version of Alcohol 120% installed, however I have disabled its virtual SCSI adapter in the device manager so that should not be the problem. Plus, this game uses Safedisc v2.90 so blacklisting should not be an issue. In addition, there is no error message like there should be if this was a blacklist issue. So, has anyone else experienced this problem when running the game from either copies of the CD-ROM's or the originals? Right now I can't even get the original CD's to work so I don't know if the copies I made are good or not. |

that happened to me when I updated BF1942 to v1.6 from v1.5. Try uninstalling BF:V altogether and then just applying the 1.02 patch. Make sure the game works first, then try your crack.
Should work. |

On a related note, I just installed and ran the game on another PC using the copies I made, and it worked. This PC did not have Alcohol installed, and I also did not install the v1.02 update.
The CD-R copies were made at 4X read and write in a Plexwriter 48/24/48A with v1.05 firmware using the latest Alcohol 120% trial version with "bypass EFM errors" checked and with the subchannel data read and rectified during writing and in RAW DAO write mode. So, if you are looking for a drive/software/settings combination to do Safedisc v2.90 without emulation, that combination apparantly works. I still don't know why the game wouldn't run on my main PC unless it has something to do with Alcohol being installed. |

Easy..uninstall Alcohol, reboot, try BF:V.
EA has stated that BF:V has issues with Alcohol for some users. Thank goodness I'm not one of them Alcohol is what I use for playing BF games to avoid problems with PB.

But isn't it worth trying anyway? Easy to uninstall. Easy to re-install. Better than uninstalling/re-installing BF:V or Punkbuster even.

Yeah but thats not the point,
I read this in this months pcgamer, this user sent a letter complaining about SC: Pandora Tomorrow, as it wont let u play with emulation software, hes point was that, software companies have NO RIGHT to tell u wat can and wat cant u have installed in your pc, so why should E_J uninstall alcohol wich is a perfectly legal program just cos ea dont like it? And yeah hell provbably end up doing that to play, but my point is that.

EA isn't blacklisting it, but may cause technical issues. I don't pretend to understand the technology but that is how I see it.
If it could help solve a technical problem so easily, why not do it? I mean, tons of people buy NEW HARDWARE and spend hundreds of hours/dollars to solve technical problems, what's so tough about uninstalling Alcohol for a few minutes? Re-install it afterward. |

BUT TRY IT ONCE!!!
If the game doesn't run even with Alcohol uninstalled then AT LEAST YOU KNOW!!! If it DOES work with Alcohol uninstalled then AT LEAST YOU KNOW!!! bottom line: YOU KNOW!!! Sheesh! I'm beginning to wonder about you... This forum is about copy protection anyway...not about troubleshooting a general issue. If your comp can't run BF:V, take it up with EA then. Listen pal, for somebody trying to get help, you're sure making it difficult for us to help you.
I DID read all your posts and my reading skills are just fine. Even though you are trying to insult me even though I'm trying to help, I'll try one last time. Let me re-iterate: Your problem does not sound appropriate for discussion in a game cracking forum (obviously since you're not getting anywhere) and might be better handled by contacting EA tech support. And I don't mean just reading their tech support pages, I mean actively post on the message boards or actively submit your problem to be evaluated by an EA tech and they will get back to you. I am through trying to help you so don't bother replying as I will not read it. |

E_J, Talus was just trying to help you and he told you just what I and many other longstanding members would have told you too. No need to get rude if the answers do not match your made up mind. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck etc... it's EA's problem so contact them.
