Fried Lik Sang cable?

I recently ripped mdk2 and afterwards set my dreamcast up on my regular television. when I tried to power up the game my dreamcast had no video at all but the audio was fine. It turned out that my dc was fried and I had to get a new one. After getting my new dc I tried to rip another game but in the tetra terminal window instead of getting the > showing that everything is going fine I get ?C and can no longer send data from pc to dc !! Im thinking that my cable is fried from whatever killed my dc. Is there something rather simple I can replace on the cable or will I have to get a new one? Has anything like this happened to anyone else?
