Similarly to copy protection, a cheap trick - like, yes, in DOOM 3 - forcing you to upgrade your operating system is the publisher's stupidity or money-hunger and their customers should raise their voice against these. Which is exactly why sites like GCW exist!
So I don't think a non-Vista patch for Halo 2 would be against the site/forum rules... (Not crack in the usual sense as it's not copy protected; see

(And, yes, I didn't like the first Halo either...
)
