Sounds like a problem I've run into on my machine, unrelated to burner software but very much related to my system and my drives.

I have an issue with my computer freezing sometimes when I try to pull data from my CD-R or DVD drive too fast! It's not the burning on mine that causes a lockup, but rather the reading of data. I've had it happen when copying files from the disc to the hard drive via Windows Explorer, and I've had it happen when I try to make a CD copy (while the burner software is copying the disc to the hard drive).

I'm not sure if this is the problem you're running into, but in my case, it affects me on both drives and the symptoms of the lockup are my CD drive flashing at a regular rate (1.5x/sec) and my hard drive light solid ON, and my mouse cursor frozen. CTRL-ALT-DEL won't break it. It requires a reset-button press or powerdown.

I'm guessing that my problem may be related to DMA for the CD-R & DVD drives. I originally loaded bus-mastering drivers for my IDE and had problems with audible noise during DVD playback, so I removed the CD-R/DVD IDE channel from the bus-mastering driver and reinstalled the standard drivers. Unfortunately, the setting that was there before bus-mastering is no longer available now - "DMA".

Good luck in your search for answers, and I hope this (long-winded) message helps you.
