The no solder chip is not really a modchip, so your friend can play his original (online) without a problem.
As for you and messiah2..... it's really not hard to disable the chip.

aside from the modchips themselves there is...
aside from the modchips themselves there is another issue you have to take in consideration and that is that DNAS some how checks to see whether the disc inside your ps2 is an official $ony pressed...
