Winrar not working with NoCD exe files!

Everytime recently that I've tried to replace an executable file from an installed PC game with a fixed exe that I downloaded from GCW I get the following error message:
! C:\Users\[username]\Desktop\dev.hppa.rar: Cannot create hppoa.exe
! Access is denied.
! C:\Users\[username]\Desktop\dev-hppa.rar: No files to extract

I am quite sure I have been abble to create a No CD fix for previous games, but I didn't have to go through winrar.
I would really love some help for this, thanks!
and if this isn't the right forum, please direct me to the correct place to post

and P.S that "hppoa.exe" is obviously for a specific game and not the same for all games I try to fix.

Get the latest WinRAR, swicth off your virus scanner temporarily etc. etc. Read the PC Games Forum FAQ, too, and tell us exactly which crack you're talking about (URL, e.g.).

He probably means Harry Potter: The Prisoner Of Azkaban.
I have just tested the crack hosted at GCW (there is only one for this game). Latest WinRAR extracts it fine.

The most probable cause should what Joe said. The version of winrar must be old.

I have had that problem in the past a couple of times in the past too

'Access denied' sounds more like a Windows UAC problem to me - I had the same for files I've installed below <Program Files> with Windows 7/64.

Try to extract the archive somewhere else (where you definitely have write permissions) and the copy the file to the desired location using the Windows Explorer. If a UAC window pops up, asking you for permission to "modify files on your computer", it's that.

Access denied is when you have no write permission or you aren't logged in as Administrator.
