XP not recognizing WD Passport
Hi.
I am having problems. I am trying to connect a WD Passport to my laptop, but nothing is really happening. Well, almost nothing...the blue light on the side of the Passport lights, so it's getting at least some power. I don't think it's getting an inadequate power level, because I successfully connected a different Passport a few weeks ago. An error message appeared briefly stating that windows did not successfully install the new hardware. The thing that make me think that this is a software/driver issue is: Over the past few weeks, while I have a ligitech gaming pad connected, a notification appears claiming that th device would perform faster if connected to a hi-speed USB port...which is bollocks, all four of my ports are USB 2.0. Any ideas? |
Most likely it is a power problem
WD does not use the same drive for all it's Passport cases so maybe this drive requires a bit more power than the previous drive Have a look here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...t-problem.html |
Be careful, some manufacturers will say "USB 2.0 ports" and most will say "USB ports Compatible with USB 2.0 devices" - i.e. is USB 1.1, and also before connnecting any new USB device always always makes sure the older similar type hardware software is uninstalled, and the new driver installed after the uninstall of old. Then it is plugged in.
