Mod Chip not working?
Hello guys,
A couple of days ago I installed a mod chip on my PSOne and it played my backups wonderfully. But today after I switched out a game it won't work any more. The backup disks boots to the black Playstation logo screen but hangs there. When I use the original disk it works fine. I opened my unit and checked all the connections to the mod chip and they are all fine. I tried several times my other backups and they all have the same problem now except one game, where it loaded and played fine once and never again. Any suggestions? |
it sounds like its a problem with your laser or or media a couple things to try
try a music cd burnt to the same media tweak the pots of your laser get better brand cd-r if the chip was working yesterday unless you dropped it i dont think its a problem with the chip since it loads the black psx screen |
Hey thanks for the reply. I tried some burnt music cd and they all work. For the pot of the laser, I turned it 1/8 of a turn to the right and found that some games loaded sometimes and others didn't, but it is still kind of random. For my cd-r's, I use Memorex. If it is the cd-r's, are there any other brands that are known to work well?

At http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/index.htm, currently there's only a quality guide for DVD media but, from that, you can guess that probably Memorex CD's are also quite far from the best...

Try "Verbatim data life plus".

Thanks for those links and suggestions (time to get some better dvd-r's)! I noticed that the backups will always work on the first boot after an hour or two of "cool down" time when the Playstation is off. After that no backups will boot again until after another couple of hours. I haven't tried Datalife Plus yet but I did get some Verbatim inkjet cd-r's from a friend and they act no differently from my Memorex's.
Thanks again for all your help! |
