Sims 2 - Bon Voyage suddenly says my original is a "backup"

I've tried the fix suggested at MTS2 - change the shortcut target to the EP instead of the launcher. No luck. It's rather insulting, having a game tell you it's a burnt copy when you can see it's the 3 week old original CD sitting in the drive tray. Any one think maybe that's a good reason to try a noCD patch or would whatever is causing the error still be there? Most of my older games I just grab a patch & put the original away anyway - saves accidental scratches etc (all it takes is dropping it by mistake).
I'm a bit irritated with the game as it was working just fine only 24 hours ago.

It gives me the impression that maybe the game orginal exe is conflicting wth some emulation software since you said worked before

try turning off all emulation software you might have running (daemon tools, alcohol, etc...)

whats the exact message?

SecuRom version of WiC 1.001 is 07.34.0014 same as sims 2 bon voyage new patch DT and yasu are BL and no crack yet so secuom leads 2 - 0 now hahhahah

Well here's the odd thing - what emulation software? I'm not using any. No deamons, nothing. It was just a flat install from original, 3 week old EA-factory CDs that ran for a while then told me :

Please insert the original instead of a backup (1000)

bit of a PITA if you ask me - copy protection that thinks an original is a pirate. Gave up in the end, downloaded a crack. Insane that to be able to play a game I've bought, I have to install something a noCD crack. hrm I feel like taking a photo of the bloody error message with all the Sims2 CDs leaning against the monitor & posting it to EA. Not that they'd pay any attention.

hmm that msg doesnt imply virtual drives, it implies the disk is not original, possibly atip check etc.. are you 100% sure you dont have a backup disk in another drive, that securom might be seeing?.... if you do have a copy of the game legitimately (and i have no reason to doubt you), then why not contact securom (or the games) technical support, instead of this forum.. that would be the better course of action..

As a owner to a legitimate copy, you are always entitled to official support from the publisher and likely also from securom. As far as I know there are no 100% working fixes for Sims 2, but I may be wrong?
