Doom Hi-Res Graphics Inquiry
Before I get into this subject to deeply... My first inquiry is to see if any of the members of the forum may be familiar with the process of turning the standard Doom 2 texture-grahics [256 color palette] into Hi-Res textures.
|
There have been several projects to re-engineer the textures for good old DOOM 1 and 2 for engines like Doomsday etc. They had been available, along with lots of other re-engineered stuff (MP3/OGG music, 3D weapons and enemies etc.) on http://www.doomsdayhq.com but not anymore (and the downloads were quite hard to find back then, too).
If you're interested, tell me. I need a fast FTP server for uploading a Gigabyte of stuff. ;) |
Joe...

Thanks Joe
First, I'd like thank Joe Foster for his offer and following through with it... definetely some good material. Now, this brings me back to inquire about if any member has knowledge of the construction of Hi-Res graphics. I'm interested in taking the Doom 2 sprites textures and converting them into 4x High-Resolution. Expanding graphics to 4x their size is one thing, but actually turning them into beautiful Hi-Res's is another. If anyone with this knowledge wouldn't mind advising as to what software needed and the process in getting this accomplished, I would appreciate their help.
Thank you... |
A team is being assembled to enhance the Doom 2 iwad sprites in the famous pc game "Doom 95". If anyone has graphics enhancement skills and are interested in looking into the possibility of joining in, please click on this link

Not wanting to register that other forum, just to send in one post, I have the following opinion: spending hundreds of man hours to create high resolution but still two-dimensional enemy, weapon and item sprites, when there are pretty good resolution three-dimensional sprites already available for the DoomsDay engine, seems to be a complete waste of time! (Wall and floor textures are a different topic: they are two-dimensional by their nature...)
