Crystal Chips cc1.0 and a v14 console?

According to the Crystal Chips website there are install instructions/pics for the older cc 1.0 chip on v14 consoles. I would like to put this chip on my v14 console but I'm not sure if it will work out of the box as v14 console support wasn't added until firmware release 18 and later.

Do I need to flash my cc1.0 in a v1-v12 console with r18+ firmware before I put it in my v14 or will it work enough to just stick it in my v14 and flash it there? Has anyone done this?

Install it in the v14 and flash it. You should have no problems :)

Well I installed it in my v14 (GH-037-02) and all I get is a black screen on boot up and no laser activity. I even tried to force the backup firmware chip by pressing reset 3 times and tried to shut off the chip by pressing reset 6+ times. I triple checked all solder points and resoldered them the last time. When I remove the 3.3v power from the cc chip the ps2 boots as expected.

Now I'm totally lost, maybe it does have to be flashed on an older system 1st. Maybe I have to wire that TO pad.. it shows it in the newer 1.1-2.0 pics. What is the TO pad and why can it sometimes be left out?

On spedmetals http://www.norcalmods.com/gallery/ site there's pics of cc1.0 on v14's.. More proof that it's possible, I just wonder what I'm missing here :(

It also looks like Sped has the TO pad wired to the MB though it doesnt show it in the diagrams i have found.
Why dont you contact Spedmetal at his website and see what he thinks. Speds a real cool guy, he will help you if he can. From what you describe my guess is you have a bridge somewhere. Sorry without having the console in hand all we can do is guess.

BTW, you did burn the latest firmware upgrade onto a cd-r didnt you?

yeah I burnt the latest firmware to CD-R :)

I'll contact spedmetal as I have been looking for a few days now with no answers.

I'm unsure what a "bridge" is but my guess is it's a short. I've also did a resistance check on nearby pads to make sure none are touching.

Total loss here.. even if it was that I didn't burn the firmware CD-R, the laser refuses to spin up while the mod is powered.

Thanks for the help thusfar!

Any chance of an install pic?

P.S. With the chips power removed, does the console function normally (i.e. full functionality including reading of discs?)

As for an install pic, well I wish I could but my digital camera is crap and even worse in macro mode. I'll see if I can borrow a better camera.

I used the install pics from crystal chips website for cc1.0 installs

When the chips power is removed yes it does function fully.. loads cd's & dvd's as expected.

I decided to reply here.

1) Do I need to use the TO line? what is the TO line for? It's not on
the official cc install guides for cc1.0 on v14. If yes the heck to I solder the TO line?
No with the CC1.0 you do not use the TO point. It appears in one of my V14 installs as it was mistakenly added. That picture was taken before I had tested it, notice the wax paper. This is a CC1.0 in a V14

(unrelated and just for fun here is one of my most recent installs a CC2.0 in my V12)

2) Must I have the cc1.0 chip preflashed with a firmware higher then release18 for support of v14 consoles or should it be able to spin up the laser so I can upgrade from my older firmware first?
No you do not need the CC1.0 preflashed with R18 but if you have it flashed with anything other then a bios compatible with V14's this might be your problem. The factory flash is blank and boots the chip from recovery mode. Have you tried booting the chip in recovery mode and then running the upgrade disc? To do so tap reset 3 times in a row. Read here

If that doesnt work I would assume its your install.

@EMPIRE

the netpass crap is bullshit and why dont you have the [img] code enabled ... he wont see this or reply but I just wanted to vent.
