Graphics problem with Final Fantasy 8

The graphics in the game (not the short movies) are screwed up with a bunch of black around random objects. This is using the no cd patch from here. When I tried downloading the patch to correct this problem, it overwrote the no cd patch. How can I eliminate the crappy graphics, and still retain the no cd patch?

Here's a pic for reference:

Try reinstalling the noCD patch..(with the nocd patch for the correct version you have now) And if that doesn't work reinstall the game.

Best thing to do anyways .. Looks like you somehow fubar-d Your instalation.

Good luck mate

Try without a no-CD patch; does that mess up the display, too? See the forum FAQ for a few general ideas on solving such problems...

Which video card do you have, Nvidia or ATI?

You can get a NoCD for the v1.2 patches here:

Code:

http://gf.wiretarget.com/ff8.htm
I also made my own NoCD for the v1.2 patches:

Code:

I don't have any graphic problems, even after installing the Non-GeForce v1.2 patch with an ATI X850 and CAT 6.8. Whichever NoCD you choose to use, try running it in Win95 compatability mode and see if that helps.

Hi,

I think this problem has nothing to do with cracks or patches.
I had the same problem.
And the reason was the newer NVidia Forceware driver.
This game ran well with my GeForce FX 5600.
But when I got my GeForce 6600 GT, I got this graphic problems!
And I couldn't use the older version of the forceware (like the one for the FX 5600)

Thanks a lot for the help everyone. I tried installing the fix patch, then only overwriting part of that patch with the no-cd patch, with no success.

I read that in at least a few other places. You're probably right... your answer does seem to make the most sense also (I once ran into similar issues caused by the same problem on Battlefield 2). So, apart from getting an old gpu, there's probably nothing I can do. Thanks again.

Or buy an ATI card that doesn't have this problem:

Nightmare is right, it's not the NoCD but must be your driver. This screenshot was taken today using my v1.2 NoCD (Non GeForce patch), ATI X850 and CAT 6.8 and NO compatability mode set. Did you apply the v1.2 patch for GeForce cards? It should be named ff8sqeanvpatch.zip. You could also try running the config program and disabling various graphic options to see if one of them is causing the problem.

I do believe you can play FF8 in software mode which will eliminate this problem with newer GFX cards.

Maybe try checking nVidia's support page.

There are settings in the new nVidia control panel to resolve this.
