sure they do.. The original AR-MAX and evo edtion originals will both work (lol) i think you are refering to booting backeduped (lol) which can be done as long as you use your original dongle or the evo edtion will work with just a mem card!
Also if your question is regarding the ability to boot backups with cheats from the AR-Max that will also work!

i am referring to using cheats with it but the reason why i asked is that i can't get it to work it won't even go to the main screen of the max evo the ps2 won't reconise the pen either so i just assumed it would not work because my ps2 is chipped can u help in anyway please.

what chip do u have? im not sure if u can use codes using a swap chip!

i'm not sure what the chip is called but it's one where you have to hold the reset button a second or 2 so it will it play cd's or dvd's but it plays games 1st time without doing anything hope this helps.
