You could get a modchip for about 20$ that will do fine. That would be DuoX 2... If you want someyhing more advanced and "trusted" I wouls say Xecuter 2.6 or Xecuter 3...

for more info about anything take a look at www.xbox-scene.com

Im guessing you have the DuoX 2 it supports EVO X right were i can change the backgrounds and i can put emulators on it right and does the to modchip effect the speed of the emulator?

It is the bios you use that "supports" different dashboards. Any EvoX or Xecuter bios will have ExolutionX dashboard.

Actually my modchip is not as good as DuoX 2, but if I were to chip my box today I would probably get one. I am currently using Aladdin Advance with iND-bios 5003.06 on my xbox.

The modchip/bios won't affect emulation/game speeds.
EvoX dashboard will work fine no matter the chip/bios but I prefer Avalaunch as dash as I find it more useful.

You are good at soldering and can avoid splashes/burned traces/touching the board with pen etc?

I would say a new xenium ice chip is the best for a beginner. It can be sodered or be solderless a great chip that everyone likes. Google it for reviews. I bought 3 for friends I have an extra 2 they go for about $50 not cheap but the easiest and safiest for beginners. If you have any questions let me know.

another question
i been looking at the Xecuter 2.6 CE it says something about a switch does that mean i can still be able to play on xbox live and it will load evo x and everything and does the duo x2 or whatever its called talked about above does that have everything this xecuter have and does it support all older systems

In order for these chips to be sold legally, they include a legal set of bios with limited capability. Since these bios include no MS code what-so-ever, it won't even boot standard xbox games.

So, most chips you buy won't do anything until you flash a new set of [hacked] MS bios onto it. Which is pretty easy and we can help you do that if you need it. Basically, all mod chips do the exact same thing since it is the bios that determines capability, and you can choose to flash the same bios on any chip (as long as the bios size will fit onto your chip).

The more expensive chips use the same bios, but have things like custom OS's on them for xbox management (like HDD lock/unlock, eeprom editing, or re-flashing the bios banks). However, most of these can be achieved with software (except the TFT screen add-ons). They are good for devs or beta bios testers, as they have better recovery tools.

Since you have a v1.0 xbox, I would actually suggest a tsop flash (if you have an AR or know someone with it, but don't buy one since a chip is just as much). Else, I suggest the Xecuter x2.6 simply because it supports the newest x2 bios (which are very customizable through a text document, rather than editing the bios directly).

Oh, and to answer your question, the switch turns the chip off. You can play online XBL, but the switch must be off BEFORE you turn the xbox on. So, you cannot and will never be able to play backups on XBL (xlink and xbconnect can though). And the x2.6 supports all version xbox's.

Here are some other x2 sites:

Yeah the X2.6 Lite is kinda nice to be honest...

Quall you know that the iND bios is also configed through a text file? It was out before the latest X2 bios even... :p
Also the iND bios is only 256kb and thus better for most cheapmods...
And I am not so much into TSOP flash as I get a bad feeling when messing around with it... But thats a different story, get any decent modchip and you'll be fine.

I can tell you straight away to stay away from Aladdin as you'll most likely get a clone with a 30% change of working...

I heard about the iND bios, didn't know how configurable they were though, now I know :)

So, I guess I would get duox2 if you can find one for less then $25, otherwise the x2 at mods4less is that price.

ok i got alot of knowledge on this subject now i still have afew questions before i
order does the duox2 and the excuter both have a way of turning the modchip off so i can play live and which 1 is better and once i got it now with the bios how do i put them on my xbox do i burn them on a cd r and them put them on my xbox or do i use my broadband internet

Quall999 18-07-2005 15:24

Yes, it can be disabled. You can flash bios via cd-[rw] or with a network connection.

kosmiq 18-07-2005 15:32

The X2.6 has a switch to turn the modchip off, with the DuoX2 you have an option at startup to decide wether to have it on or off. Think it is like:
Power Button: Start with chip
Eject Button: Start without chip
not sure about that though but I am sure it can be turned off.

The Xecuter 2.6lite is of course better as the DuoX2 is considered a cheapmod.

To flash the DouX2 read these threads:

About the Xecuter 2.6lite I am sure you will get all the info you need at teamxecuters homepage or from quall... ;)
