My PS2 stopped reading PS2 games... Please Help Me !
My ps2 won't read ps2 games anymore and i don't know why, i didn't drop it or anything. it just stopped working. please help me fix this or help me rip my games so i can play them on my computer.
thank you, jordan |
Don't panic.
Simply get a CD lense cleaner and run it a few times inside the PS2. If this doesn't work let me know. There are plenty of things to try before fearing the worst. :) |
i have a cd lense cleaner, and i ran it through about 5 times. after that didnt work i had no clue what to do, so i posted here.
|
as lufc fan said dont panik
bit more info disc read errors or what ?????? |
yea, i get a disc read error for any game i put in, including my band new san andreas that i just got yesterday for my b-day. so it's not the discs i'm using
|
Yeah = do you just get 'Reading Disc' or 'Disc Read Error' in the Browser screen?
Also, how old is that PS2 of yours? |
the ps2 is prob about a year old
|
the disc read error in the browser screen is what i get.
|
ah, OK.
Sounds like something a little more serious. what is the SCPH number at the rear of the console? (on the sticker) |
Scph-50001

OK, get a large and a small '+' head screwdriver, and a small '-' head screwdriver.
Now, look at the back of the PS2 at the bottom. If a small black sticker is present remove it. Now, flip the console upside down and get the small '-' head screwdriver. Wedge this underneath the small plastic and rubber squares. Now, lift them upwards. There are screws underneath. Get the large '+' head screwdriver and undo all the screws and take them out. (Note where the silver screw comes out of - don't forget :p ). Now, flip the console back the right way up and have the front facing you. Lift the top of the case upwards from the back, and slide forwards. Now you're in! :) Now, plug in the power, (careful not to touch ANY of the internals OR silver plates inside). Flick the switch at the back of the system, and hit the Eject button. The tray will side out. Now, just flick the switch at the back of the system off again, so the PS2 powers down, leaving the tray out. Now, you can remove the power cord and undo the two small screws at the front of the DVD Drive cover. Remove these, and unclip the two clips at the back of the cover for the DVD Drive (They can be stiff!) Now, you can see the laser and everything inside. Down the back of this, you can see a silver clip and two small white cogs. Using the small '-' head screwdriver, give both wheels 2 clicks anti-clockwise. Put the top back on the DVD Drive, plug back in the power and A/V Cords, and switch on. Test your game discs. If there is no change, take apart again, and give it another couple of clicks anti-clockwise. Repeat until the desired effect occurs. If there is no change, put the cogs back to their original positions and post back. |
iight, i'll try that and let you know how it works.
|
Good Luck :)

3 things.
1. do both of the white things have to move EXACTlY the same about of clicks, becuasei think i accedently moved one of them more then the other. and 2. when i start up my ps2, is the drive suppose to spin consistantly, or should it just do little clicks then start spinning fully. and 3. if it's not suppose to do the little turns, then start spinning fully, could that be my problem, and how would i go about fixing that ? |
It should be EXACTLY.
It should spin constantly. The laser causes it to do as you describe, so doing what you did above is supposed to fix that. You may now have to go in and adjust the laser pots using a multimeter. :) |
