Choosing a good DVD Burner
I am looking for a good Dual-Format and Dual-Layer internal IDE DVD burner.
Currently I have an Asus 5232AS CDRW drive. On top of the fact that it is highly rated, very fast and very quiet, it is also very good at duplicationg cd protections. Not just reading but burning too. However I broke the cd tray yesterday, and decided it might be time to finally get a DVD burner. While I can find very good reviews on which burners are good and which ones are not worth it, it isnt easy to find information on how well they are on duplicating cd and dvd copy protections. I am well aware that it is impossible to get a drive that will copy any protection, as some are impossible to duplicate, but I would settle for one that can read/write as many as possible. I was looking at the Lite-On 1673S, it seems to be a very good burner, but seems to have problems with some fairly new protections that my Asus dosent, such as Safedisk 2.9. Just to make it clear, I do NOT want this drive to pirate software. Quite a few of the games I own are copy-protected AND multicd. These are quite a pain, especially when they ask me to constantly switch cds or keep a certain cd in the drive in order to make the game boot. Not to mention that some games seem to like trying to make my cdrw drive read at max speed (56x) which makes the disk EXTREMELY hot in just a few minutes, I dont want to risk damaging the originals or switching physical cds constantly to play a game. |
Hello Cyber,
Wrong forum mate for this question. Post your question in either the "Hardware' or the 'Chit Chat' forums. Or just wait until GLH moves it there for you. ;) |
There is a good LG burner just now, that is very cheap, forgot model but its the latest, it also supports DVD-RAM quite good, and can make good working DPM's (tested).
