I was wondering about getting one all i want to do is play back up games on my ps2, so are they any good because i dont realy want to install a mod chip. and how exactly does it work because by the looks of it you have to stick a bit of plastic too the front of the tray to pull it out?

Very few of us use this method to play backups so its hard to help. Most will tell you Swap magic sucks and to get a modchip :D . Anyway do a little research I'm sure you will find the answers :) .

Yes, it is true that the Swap Magic does suck. Try that search Warlock mentioned and you will find out why. As for a simple recommendation, Look into a Duo2 chip. Its a great chip. Perfect for what you want to do, and its compatiblity is top notch as well. You will probably need to have it installed professionally though and anticipation would lead to your next post entitled, "Do any of us know a good installer?", again do a search and there you will find that answer as well.
