Mod chip for PSTwo
Are there any working mod chips yet for the PSTwo? Plus do you think the new PSTwo can ever be modded to support a USB HD? Thanks!
|
I remember there being the Crystal modchip, Infinity, New "Messiah" team chip (Forgot what the name was..... ). I forgot if there are any more coming out.... perhaps a DMS? Anyway, I don't believe there will be HDD support for the PSTwo. USB ports are too slow to stream games. Also too many issues right now with the first batch of PSTwos, I've heard some "blow up" or the laser fries and such. AFAIK..

Yeah the crystal chip is one, the DMS4 supports V12, as does the superior Matrix Infinity. The old Messiah teams chip is called the Ghost 2. :)
Out of all these, I'd have the Infinity like a shot :D |
Now why did I have a feeling you were going to say something along those lines? ;)

Do you know who mods a PSTwo as I see that Norcal Mods don't yet. Would you advise waiting a bit for the laser problem to be fixed first before getting it sent out to be modded? Thanks!

foundmy.com is a reputable installer.
Although a lot of the "reputable" installers are holding off on continuing the mods for the v12, until an absolute laser fix is found. I say reputable installers, b/c not only are they actually reputable, but I'd think that an installer who would rather wait till a problem is fixed to install a modchip is quite good and I'd consider to be a somewhat professional. (You know, caring for the client more so than the money ;) ) Until an absolute fix is found, I'd hold off on modding the PSTwo... That's my thoughts  |
mine too - I'm holding off...As should those who want their PSTwo modding.

Yeah but the link in this thread is very interesting:

I came across that awhile ago, but reports of people performing the mod have not been too steady. Some say it worked for awhile but in the end didn't work. Others say they haven't gotten it to work properly. Still a little skeptical though IMO.... I especially don't like this quote:
"There are certainly other solutions to this problems (some of which are currently being tested) which can offer a more general protection to the coils by constantly monitoring the voltage applied to them. However we felt that it was much more important to offer a cheap, easy and fast fix instead of a more general one which would be outside the reach of the general hobbyist." In my experience and opinion, a lot of the times a cheap, easy, and fast fix is not the best thing.... ;) I'd rather just wait until a solution which seems a bit more absolute comes along. |
I must say, the fix seems to be a bit of a pain in the arse. God damn Sony for selling us this piece of crap!
