Laser problems (not reading DVD media)
After opening my PS2, for some dust cleaning, and putting it back together i had problems with reading PS2 DVD games, DVD movies, DVD-R. Before opening everything was reading fine. And HDLoader is still working.
I opened it again, checked if every ribbon connected correctly. While i was frustrated and wanted to put everything back together, i broke the Reset/eject ribbon aswell, that's already fixed though. I tried turning the white COG under the tray, I've cleaned the lenz with a CD cleaner. Anything else i could do before buying a new laser? It's a SCPH-39004, so just don't want to throw it away and buy a new one. |
Sorry I ddint get to your PM about this same question yet, but now that its a thread I will just reply here.
I'm not sure why a simple dusting would have caused this, but it is reading some CD based games right? Is it reading CD-R's PS2 and PSX? It may just need a little pot adjustment on on the back of the laser its self. |
I know i PMed you first about it but i figured the more people see it the more could help and maybe others with the same problem could finally get theirs back going :)
I don't have any CD based PS2 games but it's reading PSX games fine and audio CDs work fine too. By pot, you mean those 2 little regulating resistors (potentiometers)? Edit: OK, i've found a site which one of the 2 is actually the DVD pot. http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserPS2.htm Does anyboy with a 39004 know how much Ohms he/she has on the DVD pot? Because mine was at 956 Ohms and the site says it should be around 1100 and 1400. |
The 1100 and 1400 reading are what they would be from the factory. If your Pots are around 960 already this means that they have been turned down a little already. You might turn them down a little more to around 920 and see if this helps.
The pot farthest away from the white plastic worm gear is the DVD pot. |
i turned it down to 913 with still no results.
