Alcohol 120, CloneCD, or BlindWrite.. whats the best?
I thought I was done with having to backup my software, but now that my nephew has toasted a couple of my games.. looks like I better start again. I have an old version of CloneCD (Elby) and Blindwrite. But neither of those work anymore, so I've been trying to find out what would be the best software on the market. I've heard talk about Alcohol 120, and only a little of CloneCD and nothing of Blindewrite. My prefrence would be to upgrade CloneCD from Slysoft due to the low upgrade cost, but from what I can find, it may not work on all the CD's that Alcohol does. Is that correct?.. any help or opinions?.

well i have alcohol 120 for a long time.(before slysoft took clone cd from elby...)and all my problems have been solved.clone cd has a profile called protected games right?well in alcohol there are profiles with the specific protection so it saves you A LOT of time.i'd say switch to alcohol 120% it's worth it's money that's for sure.no more "can't back up my cd's"
i say this cause i have worked with both of them.so what you need is... alcohol 120% and protection id(scans for protections) if you don't know how to scan for protections or bored just look at GCW for the protection but i'd say stick with Pid. |
I use both Alcohol 120 and Clone CD. I use alcohol 120 for everything except Securom games! Clone CD in my opinion does a better job of Securom! When backing up a Securom game using CloneCD just choose the 'Game Protected CD' setting and you will have no problems with the backup! You will still need to use a NoCD crack to play the game but you wont have to bother with the DPM measurements! ;)

whats DMP measurements? I like clonecd because I just create a profile in cc with both subchannel turned on, it burns everything so far except games by EA. will alchol backup EA games?
|
It works for me.
|
I've never had a problem backing up anything with clonecd including EA games.

well, that's because u pretty much know what u're doing :)
from what i have read, cloneCD does all the things alcohol does, plus it can make the perfect images (true CCD), but i like Alcohol 120 better.... the GUI is kinda sweet, and it has a cool name :) |

The way I see it, the whole point of me purchasing Alcohol was so I could make a 1:1 backup of my game without having to bother downloading cracks/patches in order to play using it. When Alcohol is unable to create a 1:1, I dont see the point in then using CloneCD to create another image that isnt a 1:1 and use a no-cd. You may as well use Alcohol to create the flawed image and use a nocd. |
I am used to using Alcohol120, cloneCD is the good choice too :D

Here's what you need to know.....
1)Use CloneCD 5 for emulated backups of SafeDisc 2.90 and up (i.e.3.1 up to 4.0) 2) use Alcohol 120% for SecuROM 4.8 to 5, enabling RMPS emulation on your virtual drives. 3) If you have a burner capable of writing in RAW DAO mode, go for Blindwrite 4.57 to copy those SecuROM 4.8/5.0 games without th need for emulation |
 HM... so blindwrite is useless for safedisk and starforce?!
Now about A120, if you have it on windows 98se and upgrade to XP, you cannot uninstall it and it will not re-install. You have to either first uninstall A120, THEN upgrade to XP and convert from fat32 to ntfs. Or, reformat to ntfs and do a fresh install for XP. Now you don't have the quirks enherited from 98se and A120 and other stuff installs just fine! |
