V7 Matrix Infinity Install problems - not working?

I installed a Matrix Infinity today. I get the Infinity 1.2 logo right by the playsation 2 one when I boot an original game.

-Direct boot (hold down select) works
-Original game works

-Configuration menu (hold down triangle and circle) does NOT work. If I select this, then the PS2 goes to a black screen and just sits there.

-Backup seems to NOT work. It spins the disc up and then gives me the pink/red 'please insert a ps2 disk' screen. I tried two backups (niether have been tested). A cd copy of Tekken Tag Tournment which I burned(4x) using alchohol... and an HD loader cd i burned(48x) to cd from a downloaded image. I used Memorex 52X CD-R media

I also had a problem with the SCEX point. The first wire i soldered to that point fell off, and I had a hell of a time getting solder to flow onto it to attach a new wire.

I would appreciate any and all help.
I am going to put photos of my install (sloppy wires, i know) up at
http://riftwave.net/misc/mtrx/ in about 40 minutes.

More matrix infinity v7 install woes

I stayed up all night shortening wires and looking over my installation and
I am having a different set of problems now.

-(I discovered that I had attached point B on the mod chip to the wrong point on the PS2 board)

Now, whenever i boot the PS2, it goes straight to the sony playstation logo (the red/yellow/green P), the PS2 name (neon blue), and then straight into setup. After I put in the language, location, and timezone, it gives a DRE.

I'm guessing that my problem is somewhere on the bios chip (the one with the alternating on-pin solders straight to a chip on one side and the little pad solders on the other side), so I'm going to check there.

Any advice/insight is much appreciated.

Problems solved

It turns out that the metal shield was shorting out my chip solder-wire-attachments. 3 pieces of electrical tape solved my last problem.

Chip is working fine now!

If you get clicking with your dvd laser, then you have a short on the bios chip!
(the one with the 4 pin welds and 6 pad welds on the other side).
