Couple of questions...

Hey guys, as you can see I'm new to these boards and I'm posting because I've got a few questions on creating backup copies of games that I didn't see answered in the newbie guide.

Firstly, if I were to get my Ps2 modded I wouldn't sodder the chip on by myself as I know I would screw it up (I've heard horror stories from a friend who bought a Ps2 from Walmart, messed up the sodder, returned the Ps2 and repeated the screwing up returning 3 times).
Playing backup copies

1. At this point, the main thing I play on my Ps2 is SOCOM II and I play it online. If I were to Mod my Ps2 with a chip, would DNAS or another server side program detect it, and if so would there be any way for me to "hide" the chip?

2. Right now I've got a DvD and a CD burner, as well as a Ps2 (duh) and could get a hold of any burner program that you guys recomend and blank media would be easily gotten as well. Aside from the chip is there anything I would possibly need inorder to play/make backup copies.

3. I've come to the conclusion from what I've read that I will need to update my software on my chip... If I am right about that, how often would I need to update it and what would that intale?

HD Loader

1. If I were to install the HDD Loader onto my HDD that I have for my Ps2 already, would backing up games on the hard drive eliminate my ability to put downloadable content on that hard drive?

2. If I were to load a game onto the hard drive, would I need the game disc to do anything other than installing the game on the hard drive? So say if I were "backing up" a game for a friend on my hard drive, would I only need the disc to instal it or would I need it to play the game as well?

Thank you for your answers ahead of time!

1. With a modchip you would either have to disable the modchip or get a dnas patch.

2. Best software is record now max i prefer 4.5 as i have had no problems with it. Best media is ritek g04

3. There are only 2 chips on the market who use firmware and thats dms3 and matrix infinity all other chips dont need upgrading. They have these firmware updates to stop bugs and future developments.

4. It depends what u mean by " downloaded" content. U mean reality player or pirated games?

5. once the game is installed u will not need anything else except the hd loader cd. But this is not a time to start pirating.

3. How would I get the firmware update onto the chip after it is installed?

4. By downloaded content I mean maps, player skins, etc supplied for download by the developers of the game. IOW if the developers of SOCOM II were to release a new map, would I be able to download and store this to my HDD like a "non-loaded" one? or are "non-loaded" and "loaded" formated differently?

ratchet and clank gave me so much trouble. was about to pull out my hair trying to backup this guy. tried to create an image or disc copy with Nero 6, Diskjuggler, and the popular Recordnow Max v4.5. all errored out at 64%.

read many posts saying the disc is scratched and not clean. i clean it, wax it, shine it, still no luck.

read more post, someone said gamesxcopy would not have a problem with creating backup, but same error at 64% when trying to create an image. at this point i was pretty much about to give up. one last try with gamesxcopy. did the copy disc, to my surprise it went pass the 64% mark and finished creating a temp image and ask for a blank disc. throw on the disc and it completed the backup. tested it and it works fine.

you can put downloadable content into hdd even if you installed hdloader already but the game should loads from game disk and not from hdd with hdloader.
if you don't have the official $ony hdd then the game should be patched to recognize the hdd correctly.
