Problem with matrix infinity install into v9 PS2

Have just installed a Matrix Infinity into my V9 PS2. When I flashed up got an really loud buzzing/clicking sound.

Fearing for the life of my ps2 (Romeo Mod carried out) I removed the chip and tested again to see what was going on. Still getting the same buzzing/clicking sound without the chip installed.

Took top off and top of dvd drive off and watched laser when I switched on. The laser is travelling to the middle of the drive but not stopping and moving back when it hits the microswitch at the centre. Instead it just keeps trying to travel further and the plastic teeth on the side worm drive are slipping causing the buzzing/clicking sound. After a while (about 4 secs) of the noise it gives up and will then quite happily boot a CD or DVD no problem. Its just that initial switch on/off or hitting reset.

Any Idea what could be causing this?

I had something similar to that once. I replaced a 400B laser in a V4 with a 400C and forgot to remove the solder blob on the anti static deal. Maybe a bit of solder go in there and is simulating what the solder blob was doing. I have also seen this happen when the ribbon cable for the laser or the reset/eject isn't quite right.

thanx for reply. Only touched the mobo so has to be a short or a solder splash etc. Will get it under the microscope tonite and examine. :)

Very strange. At least you got it working :)

Yeah. I wish I knew what the problem was though. As sped said it could be the reset/eject cable is a bit dodgy and with pulling it apart/putting back together have nudged it into a working position. Oh well, have left it unmodded and daughter now has it in her bedroom as an unmodded.

Thanx for the replies ;)
