WinXP can't find CD001 in any file..!!??
 

wtf.?? i right-clicked on my data folder to search for cd001 references contained in any files. but winxp couldn't find any!!!! i typed cd001 in the containing text field, uncheck case sensitive...........nothing... hello!!! the 1st_read.bin is right there..!! find cd001 in the bin....stupid XP.!! LOL. how am i supposed to find out what other bins contain cd001 if xp cant find them? is there a tool for this??

I wasn't aware WinXP could search for strings inside of files, much less binary ones. Definitely try using a hex editor for this sorta stuff instead. :D

yeah, XP sux right now. i'll use a hex editor.

a tool to do this would help, too.

shure xp has its problems im not compleatley shure but im faveley shure no versons of windows can look inside of files for those kind of things useing there serch

Win98 can.

WinME can, too. and i must admit, XP is a little more stable that WinME. since winme has a tendency to crash explorer and make your taskbar icons disappear. i haven't experienced that with XP yet.

back to topic.... i'm sure theres an app that can search correctly in XP. i'll look for it.

have you tried using FIND (dos command)

it is slow but it works...

i'm not good in dos. whats the exact syntax?

did you make shure to enter it in the box marked "A word or phrase in the file" not the box marked "All or part of the file name"

Start>Run>cmd
now lets say your .BIN files are in C:\Bins (folder)

in dos prompt type: cd C:\Bins
once there type find "CD001" *.bin

i'm new to XP..........win98/ME compatibility mode?? do i have to turn it on.?

i noticed binhack closes right away in xp and not in ME.

Right-click a program (e.g. binhack.exe) choose properties then click on the compatibility tab where you can change the compat mode.
