Dc Backup Problems

Okay, I'm having SERIOUS problems backing up my Dreamcast game and wondering if someone could help me out. Basically, I'm copying the game via DC Coders cable. (securely plugged into both the PC and DC) I set the COM 1 settings properly on my computer, I downloaded Tera Term Pro 2.3 and that's installed. I put on the proper settings on that. I ran Serial Upload Slave and ran that. That works just fine. As soon as I pressed OK on Tera Term confirming the settings, it gave the error message: COM 1 CAN'T BE OPENED. I tried the other COMS (2-4) and that didn't make any difference. I can't connect (or open) COM 1 for some reason. COM 1 on my computer seems to be working okay. (so says device manager) Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Would be appreciative!

Thanks!

Okay, found the problem but....

Okay, found the problem but now it's like it connects, but in the tutorial it says press the enter button and you should get this >
So I press the enter button (yes my settings are still good) and there is no greater than sign...still looking for help....anyone?

So what was the problem you had with COM1, and now that it connects, what speed do you have TeraTerm set at? :)
It might all be a little easier if you find yourself the dreamrip script for TT which helps automate some of the process (plus it lets you skip over tracks on the GD-ROM in case you have to restart an incomplete rip)...

okay, here's what I got

Okay, I'm at THIS point of the tutorial. Basically, I resinstalled the drivers for my COM 1 and now it is working properly....must have been a driver problem before but now it can open COM 1. anyhow, here is where I am at on the tutorial from mega games:

- --- Let It RIP!! ---------------------------------------------------->

OK so now connect your DC to your PC with your cable, Done it? Good!

Now boot up your Serial/Slave image, leave it until you see the blue borders
once the borders go blue at the SEGA LIECENCE screen remove the serial/slave
and replace with your chosen GDROM, it will spin and you may here a little beep!
this simply means the DC has recognised the disk (like you didnt all know that)
and you are ready for action, now set up TeraTerm leaving the GDROM spinning in
your DC.

TeraTerm Pro, set up as follows:

Select: SETUP, SERIAL PORT and set:

Baud rate: 57600bps

Data rate: 8bit

Parity bit: None

Stop bit: 1bit

Flow Control: Hardware

Select the correct COM port and OK

Select : SETUP, TERMINAL SETTING and set:

Transmit new line: CR+LF

Select OK

Press enter in the terminal window and you should see this >.

OKay, basically, I set TT to correct settings as well as COM 1 on my computer to the correct settings as well. When I press enter....like it says to press is in the Terminal windows....I don't get the ">"

That's where I'm at. What's the deal with that dreamrip configuring everything? Where canI find it? Thank you very much for your help.

This tutorial is screwed up... it tells you to swap the serial slave disc with a GD-ROM first, and THEN set up TT to communicate with the Dreamcast. That doesn't sound right to me... Try leaving the serial slave disc in... and only once you get the ">" and stuff and uploaded the dreamrip binary, swap in the GD-ROM...

coldasice99 25-03-2004 12:28

Not working

OKay, I tried what you said and left the Serial Upload Slave disc in, and put in all the settings, and presses the enter button to get the ">" and it STILL didn't come up. I TRIPLE checked the settings and it was as accurate as can be. Nothing...no responce.
Any more ideas? Thank you.

wow... Something must be wrong, still... Sure your cable is actually plugged into the COM1 serial port? :) Those drivers you reinstalled for the serial port, are they accepting TeraTerm's settings? And the serial slave, are you 100% sure it boots on the Dreamcast? Borders on the Sega license screen turning from white to blue? (If I remember correctly, they turn blue - then once you upload and start dreamrip, they turn red...)
I can't think of what the problem could be, otherwise - you certainly are doing everything right as far as I can tell.....
