need help with installing chip in new xbox
Hey Guys,
I need a lil bit of help installing a chameleon mod chip in a new X-Box. The old X-Box is slightly different than the new one and I am not sure if I have it in right. The motherboards are different. Does anyone know of a site that offers a diagram? |

Thanks Spedmetal....;)

Ok I got the chip in but when I boot it up, it comes up with the X-Box screen and then another screen pops up that says my X-Box needs service. I must have done something wrong. Any ideas on what I could have missed to cause this message to come up?

What BIOS is on the chip?

Im not sure rms2001, but i will ask the guy i bought it from in 2 days. the manufacture date on the old one is 2002 and on the new one 2003. How do I determine the version it is?

**Note**
On 1/29/04 xbox worked fine til kids went to bed. Next morning it would not boot up. I asked them if it got bumped but they said no. I would turn it on as normal. I got no video at all, the big green light that surrounds the eject button blinks green and red.(like a default beep on a pc) also i could hear it make a dragging noise like the fan was turning and stopping. it would do this about 3 or 4 times and then not do anything at all. I figured it for dead, so i went out and bought a new one. I took the new hard drive out and switched it with my 120g then I put the chip in the new x-box. it is the no solder Chameleon as already mentioned. Right away i noticed the motherboards are slightly different. Old xbox=2002 and the new being 2003. The D0 spot on the board is the only hold up. I am not sure which one it is so I traced the D0 on the old one back to the chip then from the chip on the new one back to the D0. It seems to be the same at that point. When i put the pinheader in place, it did not reach the D0 spot on the new board, so i rebent it to fit.....Should I put a small dab of solder on it to hold in place? or can I pre bend it to form a connection that will apply presure to the spot. (spring like) Right now it is over bent and drawn back slightly to add pressure when I tighten it down. Sorry so long here, just want to be as thurough as possible so you guys know what I got goin' on here. |
Another update. I put the new HD in the old xbox and now it boots up to the point where it says my xbox needs service and to contact the nearest xbox service department or something to that effect. It still blinks on and off with the lights but the fan appears to by humming like normal with no extra weird noise'.

i know with the new xboxs you have to use the new m7 bios on the mod chip or you will get the service screen or may even get the flashing red green around the eject button also if the hard drive was in the old xbox the new xbox needs the proper xbox dash or the renamed msxboxdash file or it will not work properly let me know how it goes

First rty to boot a evox cd or dvd. If the chip works this prog will boot and you can install it if it won`t boot check the bios. If it`s not the bios check your solder points. Normally when the eject button flashes green/red the sold4r points are not correct installed or your havind a bad trace which means you burned a trace dead.

About the d0 point. I aslways use the d0 on the back of the board. If youhave a small solder iron. Just put some solder on it tap de d0 point and lift the solder iron. Then you`ll have a bit of solder sticking out on the back. Thin your wire and just let the thin melt with the thin on the d0 point. If you don`t know where the d0 is on the back PM me and I`ll send your a picture if I can.
B.t.w. i think you bought yourself a really bad chip to install. It looks big and hard to install. I always use the alladin advance. |
i am having problems locating the d0 pad on the new christmas bundle kit version 1.5 does anyone know where i can find a pic to point me to the right pad i tried te same pas as the 1.4 bit it wont work

Update: Ok I put the hard drive back in the new X-Box back and took the chip back out and it seems to be working fine now. As for the old one, It still wont boot up at all. I just get the blinking green and red light. It is possible that it could have taken a surge during the night, but I am not sure. I am going to test it by putting a different hard drive in it. This will take a couple of days, as I have been getting ready for a FreeStyle Pizza Tossing Competion, so I will post another update later. ( To rms2001, I talked to the guy I bought it from and he has the bios disk and will be giving it to me tomorrow.) He also offered to check it out for me since he is the one who installed the chip in the first place. I will get back to you all on that as well. Thanks for the help so far guys. ;)

That sounds like a good plan of attack. Good job CGL

Lasted update. I put a different hard drive in the old XBox and it still doesnt seem to cooperate. Perhaps the motherboard got hot or took a surge. I have decided to use it for parts i guess. Atleast til I figure out how to make it work again. I did get the bios flash and it doesnt make any difference at all. I plan to get the new one modded soon, maybe using the same chip or just get a newer better one. Any suggestions on a good chip are welcome.
