Protection on Tony Hawks Underground

OK guys I'm seriously starting to wonder about the existence of some form of protection on Tony Hawks Underground. Here's why...

I have backed up this game using many combinations and have tested them on several different ps2's.., only a few common factors remain;
I have tried three brands of -R media, one of which is known to work on at least one of the ps2's as I have other backups running smoothly from the same media type. -- NONE PROVED SUCCESSFUL.
I have tried two brands or +R media -- NONE PROVED SUCCESSFUL.
I have made about twelve backups in total -- NONE PROVED SUCCESSFUL.
I have used three different types of DVD writers -- NONE PROVED SUCCESSFUL.
I have used two different programs to make the backups (Nero v5 (& v6) and RecordNow MAX 4.5 with PX engine update) -- NONE PROVED SUCCESSFUL.
I have tried these backups on three different Ps2 consoles -- NONE PROVED SUCCESSFUL.

The remaining common factor between them is the use of a No-solder mod, that uses an AR2 & pressed DVD boot disk;
I have tried many different boot discs with large TOC's including Devil May Cry, PS2 Demo Disc, and even the Tony Hawks Underground original. -- NONE PROVED SUCCESSFUL

Looking at the credits in the manual I see that some implementation of RSA encryption has supposedly been applied, but that's nothing new...

Can anyone confirm they have a working backup of this game? If so, which modchip or swap solution are you using?

Thanks to all

It gotta be a no solder mod problem. Have backup on traxdata 4X dvd-r and worked first time using Sonic RecordNow on version 5 +m1, version 7+m2 an version 9 + m2.

I have tried Tony Hawk's Underground and Need for Speed Undergroung using RecordNow Max 4.5 and my pioneer A106 DVD burner. Oh, using Maxell DVD-R disks.

What I get with THU is loading up to the first splash screen jsut before the activision animation, then is just stops, no red light on analogue controller.

With NFSU it loads fully and you get to choose your car and go to race and it just sits there at that point.

I am going to try it at work on the NEC burner using +R media, then I will try it at home again using those Traxdata disks.

Should I use -R or +R, and has anyone got these two games working on any other media other than Traxdata?

ottoman 28-11-2003 04:21

Traxdata is just a brand name of ritek. Any ritek dye based media should be fine. DVDMaster,MrData,Ritek,Traxdata. Try any of them.

The KeeN 28-11-2003 08:05

Thanks for the info, I used traxdata back in the PSX days a little but found that verbatum and TDK were the best. I hear these days in the DVD world Verbatum and TDK aren't that good but imation and apple are.

What a strange world we live in!

Anyway, the bottom line is this. Can these two games be backed up 1:1 style?:)

BG 28-11-2003 08:10

Yes.. You can backup both of these games with no problems at all...

I used RecordNow Max on Ritek G03's burned at 2X...

Boots and plays perfectly in my V5 (PAL) with Original Messiah and my V7 (NTSC) with Messiah 2.

The KeeN 28-11-2003 08:20

Result ......

Having my dim head on today GO3's the type of disk by ritek like gold is by kodak, yeah.
And one last dim question, +R -R? does it matter?

bobfffg 28-11-2003 10:53

with a v4 ps2, I would recommend staying with -R media.
besides, its much more commonly used, and the cost is usually cheaper than +R media due to demand = mass production.

Any news on this test EvoEvo ?? :)

i'm pretty sure ottoman is right in saying its something to do with the no-solder mod...
just need a few others to test and confirm this....

i got it i copied it easily with alcohol 120 latest version but
the game loadings are soooo long and heavy i was wondering if its because of a protection of any kind...and when i start pro challenges, loading becomes even more long and boring and the game keep crashing. Maybe its because its a BIG ass game and i used a cheap media.
