Half Life CD Key and Counter Strike WON ID (dont worry, this isnt warez)
 

Hi.
Dont delete this post because it is not Warez!!
I want to copy Counter Strike onto a CD and give it to my friend, who already has HL. (dont worry, Counter Strike is free, so this is not Warez)
My question is, does Counter Strike use Half Life's CD Key to get online or does it just use the WON ID?
Also, how is the WON ID assigned to the client? Or does a WON ID come with every counter strike downloaded?

Counterstrike is available in a mod version for use with half-life and as a standalone, commercial version. The latter has its own key, the former uses the half-life key, like any mod.

My assumption has always been its assigned via your CD Key and the date in which you first try to access the VALVe Master Server... Basically i got a 6 figure ID. When I used to play TFC solidly about 18 months ago, there used to be people with 3 figure IDs.. Guess they were amongst the first to purchase the game and take it online (Half-Life that is, not CS retail)

Like Wiz said, Counter-Strike Mod (the downloadable one) does not come with its own CD Key. You will have the same WonID as your other Half-Life based games/mods. Counter-Strike Retail does come with its own key though.

What is wrong and what can I do when I get data differs? I have 1.45 with a 1.45 nocd crack....the game works but I can't connect...

Sounds like you mixed games up. I think you are talking about Battlefield not Half-Life....
