My MP3s split up
 

I have hundreds of mp3 files and ALL play perfectly on my Dell computer; however, when I play them on a "stand-alone" player using a CD, about 10% of the songs will be split up into several parts. The songs that are split will go from part 1 to part 2 to part 3 ... just like when a song has ended and another begins. Some of the problem files are ones that I've downloaded off the net and others are ones that I've ripped myself. It seems to be random on which ones will be divided up. I've used 3 different stand-alone units, 2 DVD players with mp3 capability and a personal CD player with an mp3 option, they all respond the same. I want to get an IPOD but I want to get this problem resolved first. Once again, ALL the songs play perfect on my computer using either Winamp or Windows Media Player. The one thing I don't know is if all 3 stand-alone units have split up the problem files exactly the same using the same CDs. Oh yes, I've tried several different CDs packed with mp3 files.
I know there are plenty of people out there who are smarter than me so I'd really appreciate any help I can get.

What program are you using and how are you burning them, as an mp3 cd or an audio cd?

Thank you for responding. This is my setup, I'm using a Dell computer with a Pentium 4 (1.3GHz). My software is Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4. When I put the mp3s on a CD, I first format a Verbatim CD-R, then just copy and paste about 150 mp3 files onto it ... I then finalize the disk so it can be used in any CD-ROM. These are the same disks that I put into my DVD player and personal CD player where I have problems with about 10% of them. If I want to make an audio CD to play in any CD player, I use the Adaptec software and the same mp3 files. Of course, this way I only get about 18 to 20 songs per CD. If I understand correctly, the process converts the mp3 files into wav files when the audio CD is made. The audio CDs always work well ... no problems at all.

Try not using packet writing techniques to see if this helps - you say you format the cd-r beforehand so you can copy/paste files onto it.

Try doing it the normal way by selecting Data disk in whatever writing software you want to use (also, consider trying Nero instead of Easy CD Cremator).

At the risk of sounding stupid, what do you mean by "Packet Writing Techniques"?

After taking you advice, it's seems that things are working much better now. I'm not sure how I got started using the directCD method of copying files ... format, copy & paste, then finalize. Just using the create "data CD" within the software makes all the difference. Thanks for your help.
