GTA ViceCity Video hiccups
I'm using a P4 2.4 G with a ATI 9500 Pro video card and Windows XP Pro (Nothings overclocked!). I'm using the latestest driver for my video card dated 5-15-03 and I also tried updating the game to version 1.1 but nothing seems to help even when I tweak the games video display settings.
The game runs fine except for the slight hiccup or slowdown while moving every 3 or 4 seconds. Maybe this is normal but to me its kinda irritating. Does anyone else have this problem with GTA Vicecity or know what to do to fix the problem? |
I have been having the same problem on a similar spec machine. I tried a) Making sure that the Bios optons relating to the AGP were set to default i.e No enhanced AGP etc. I then found that the video was perfect with the sound card disabled. I disabled the wave device for voice modem and tried it again with enabled sound and...............PERFECT! My sound card is a SB Audigy. The problem seems to be Too much demand on the mobo resources bearing in mind the powerful graphics card/sound card/processor etc. I would suggest trying it with the sound card disabled first and see what happens.

I disabled my sound (Onboard AC'97) and the game worked perfectly. After I turned it back on it still worked fine. I hope it continues to do so but I really think what you said is my problem. Sound is definitly one thing I want to have so if and when it starts to happen again what should I do? I don't use a modem (I have an Ethernet card) and the only thing thats turned up in my bios thats related to my AGP port is the 8X feature which I really want to keep since my video card supports it. |
Try going to dxdiag and in the Sound tab reduce the Hardware sound acceleration level. Just a guess if it's sound related.

I am glad the game started to run ok.....Will it continue to do so? mmm possibly. It certainly seems to be a case of too much demand on the mobo resources so also ensure that there are no programs running in the background e.g Scanner/Printer/Antivirus related utilitys. My 2 Children are both running this game on far lower spec pc's(XP 1.3/128mb Mem/Geforce4 mx 64mb/16bit sound) and they are having no problems at all!! Sometimes less is more eh!!
