My backups play in black and white

Hi........I am sorry if this has been answered before, but i searched and couldnt find any answer.

I am useing a PAL PS2 which has a Neo2.2. I have a couple of backups (smugglers run and ESPN skateboarding) which will only play in black and white. I am useing the RGB cable that came with my PS2.

It was my understanding that the problem is that i am trying to run NTSC games on my PAL PS2. I downloaded PS2 NTSC to PAL VMode XChanger but when i tried the new backup that i had created it wouldnt load at all.

Thanks in advance.....

I think the posts are buried in the PSX forum because the exchanges all took place before it split out into PS2.

Anyway - I've never found the NTSC to PAL patches any good. So I cut out the crap and went to Maplins and bought for £60 an NTSC to PAL convertor. So I play unpatched NTSC games (subject to protection limitations) on my PS2 with the convertor in the AV line to the PAL TV. The convertor is removed for PAL games (which would play B&W with the convertor in). THIS WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.

Others have said that the fully loaded PS1 SCART AV lead will properly convey the NTSC signal to a PAL TV so that it plays in AV mode. You could try that first.

Have you tried running the games using the three phono leads going into the television. The problem is with the RGB and on some TV's when playing DVD's they will play green. There is a different cable you can get that goes to RGB and has an extra wire to fix this or as I said earlier just use the phono leads providing your TV has space for them. Most do on the front under the control panel.

Hope this helps

The phono leads (Yellow/White/Red) won't solve the problem - at least it didn't on my PS2. The PS1 SCART lead is reported to have solved the problem, but as Sim (PM) indicates, there might be a TV dependency.

Go on - get an NTSC to PAL convertor from Maplins!

Hi,

The leads u get with your ps2 are cack that will not solve your problem. You need to get yourself a proper SCART LEAD for your ps2 (make it a decent one) that will sort it out. But also your TV needs to be able to take both PAL and NTSC. Do you plug your PS2 into your TV or through your VIDEO first????

I bought myself a 15 quid scart lead from Makro made by BLAZE i can now play any format game on my ps2 and it plays in FULL Colour

goodluck

Using the 2 phonos separately did NOT work. I am going straight into my TV. I still have my old scart cable from my PS1 which used to play NTSC games fine so i will did that out and try that. I dont really want to pay out £60 for a converter unless I really have to.

Do maplins ##### online? If so whats the URL?

Thanks for all your help. I will update as I try stuff!!

Thanks again

Yes i had this prob with my ps one and a scart lead does solve the prob but only a good one will do it, also it does depend on your tv as some older ones don't work but any new tv with a scart leasd should solve your prob

I dont think my tv is that old but is not new. I tried using my ps1 scart cable but the screen just rolls.

Does anyone know where i can get a good enough scart cable?

Cheers

Do I need a special scart cable so it will connect to my PS2?

Also I use Xtreme FM as a boot disk.........could this be causeing my problem?

Cheers

I found some good cables on http://www.msp-electronics.com/shop/psx_cables2.htm and also a NTSC - Pal converter for £10.99. There are two on there, pal-d euro spec and pal-i uk spec not sure which i would need. Although, I think they are for the PS1 but I assume they will work for the PS2. Have a look and let me know what you think!

Thanks..

UK is PAL-I; the other will displace the sound. And what's good in this respect for PS1 ought to work with PS2 but a word of caution.

The gadget if it costs £10.99 might just be for RF not AV (the clue lies in the differentt PAL models because the sound carrier on RF is 500KHz or 600KHz displaced from vision). On AV the channels are separate and there is no PAL distinction. So this gadget may not be want you want although it would work at lower visual quality.

Ok.........just got my new BLAZE RGB cable (from www.gameplay.com), plugged it into my tv and.....Wahoo glorious colour! :):):).

Thanks to all that have helped work out a solution for my problem.

Cheers guys
