*sigh* No solder mod chip question..
I know the no solder mod chips are crap (now i know anyway). Before I bought it though I thought it'd be a good alternative to having to solder...anyway, my question is... I finally got the no solder mod chip to work right and was able to get DVDR's to play fine on it...for about a week. I had to purchase another boot CD since the people at gocybershop.ca sold me the wrong version of gameshark even though they assured me it was the correct version...anyway I purchased a boot CD called Swap Magic. It worked great...for about a week. Now when I hold down the eject button (which is supposed to make the cd tray open for 5 seconds then automatically close) the CD tray opens up, but then doesn't automatically close...sometimes it doesn't even open up. The power light just blinks orange to green a couple times, it makes kind of a whirring sound, then stops. When it does eject the tray, after 5 seconds the power light makes the orange to green flashes (like it usually does when it sucks the CD tray back in) but it doesn't suck the cd tray back in..it just makes a whirring sound followed by nothing. I can use the eject button normally, but since i have the no solder mod chip just using regular eject wont work. Does this sound like its a problem with the mod chip or the PS2? i'm assuming its the mod chip since the PS2 is functioning fine as long as I dont try to hold down the eject button to swap anything like i could before. I just would like to know for sure what the problem is before I end up spending more money on this thing :( I should've just bought a PS2 already mod'd with a good mod chip before..if I had the cash to start all over and do that I'd do it in a heartbeat..but i have to make do with what I got unfortunatly :( Please let me know your thoughts on this and any suggestions you have.
I have taken the no solder mod chip out and put it back in making sure everything was hooked up right too. Nothing changed between the time it was working and the time it wasn't. I was playing it fine last night, this morning, it wouldn't work right :( Thanks for your time. DR |

This thread is straining my eyes. I don't know which is worse, DRob's super long paragraph or Body's caps. Please try to break up into paragraphs and no caps.:)

I have tried reinstalling the mod chip and made sure everything is hooked up correctly. Nothing seems to have jarred loose or be hooked up wrong. I'm pretty sure the company i bought it from will not exchange it for me. They've been absolutely no help at all and sold me the wrong gameshark 2 to go along with the no solder mod chip, claiming it would work fine. Later I emailed them and they said oh, you need this other version not that one..even though they told me the version they sold me was the correct version that I needed.
Does it sound like it is a bad mod chip? Also, sorry for the long paragraph earlier. I need either some sleep or some caffiene...very tired heh :p |
Remove the mod, make sure the ribbon cable is inserted correctly, Hopefully the PS2 will function correctly, if so send it off to get a no swap.

Kinda figured its the mod. The PS2 functions correclty with the mod chip in there. I can play regular games, it ejects normally and everything, just cant play the dvdr backups anymore or cdr backups :(
What is a good place to send it off to to get a good mod chip put in it? I guess since the no solder one is screwed up rather than try another no solder one which may or may not break in a few weeks I might as well get something that's gonna work for longer than a week :) heh.. I've heard good things about the Messiah ones, and about the Magic ones that are no swap. Hard to decide which is the best though :) Also does anyone know a good person to have do that? Someone in IRC that suggested this website or any questions also suggested charlie from this website for installing the mod chip, but not sure if he does that or what his fee would be :) Thanks again for all your info and time. I just want to get my PS2 back to playin DVDrs and CDRs again as soon as possible :( DR |
Don't bother with the Magic chips. Messiah 2 is the king of chips. Send charlie_ps2 or dust2dust an email and they can supply you with one. If you are in the US, send your ps2 to Bill of freedomlives.com. If you are overseas somewhere, send it to either charlie or dust.
