Building a new pc, what to do..... what to do.......
 

Im planning to build a PC, I want it to be close to top of the line without hopefully hitting over the 2K mark in price.

Heres my current plans:
Intel Pentium 4 2.5ghz CPU - $250
EIDE 120 GB Harddrive - $130
EIDE 120 GB Harddrive - $130
EIDE DVD-ROM - $60
EIDE DVD+RW - $350
Superdisk Drive - $17
EIDE Zip 250 Meg Drive - $50
GeForce4 TI4600 - $300
Sound Blaster Audigy EX Platinum - $170
ATI TV Wonder VE - Taken from old pc
GA-8IEXP Motherboard - $130
SF-201 Case - $150
VisionTek 512MB PC2100 DDR-SDRAM - $101

Yeah I know, the price is close >.<

Anyway, so anybody have any suggestions?

Main concern is my ram, should I get DDR or RDRam? Some day DDR is better and some day RDRam is better. But a 512meg 1066 chip of RdRam costs 450 last I checked, more then ANY OTHER COMPONENT OF MY PC. Is there really that much of a performance difference between reram 800 and 1066?

Thanks for your opinions (and PLEASE don't turn this into a AMD vs Intel war I am sick of them)

there is a 10%+ performance difference, if you use it on the 533 mhz fsb. otherwise, the difference is negligible. read maximum pc, they are all about the heaviest components.

put that dam "intel" in the trash
u dint read ? every professional who check the performance find out that even if AMD smaller in mgz there still bether in performance and coat less and fully its upgradeble (dey dont change the mother board fomat every two monts)
dont **** whit the memory ... yes there are faster but for the price bether stay whit the old but good ddr 133 they cost 60$ FOR 128 MGZ SO THINK BEFOR WANTING 10% FASTER

and what is the point to have two dvd ???
just buy a normal dvd like u want
and a normal cd rom/burner for less than 150$ for 40x

keep your money (u look to have a lot to spend ) and wait to have enof to buy a dvd burner like that U ROCK

for the sound blaster sur the platinium looks good but no need for that just buy a audigy "players or mp3" vertion they are the very same thing than the platium they just dont come whit the front panel thats the only difference

i know i got to upgrad to
but for me its only gone a coast me a new cpu like a athlon xp 1800 200$ (i think)
some memory
and a new video card
its gone a coast me like near than 500$
think its bether than your 1800$

and if u alredy have a cd burner dont buy another one for 10x more speed whit a 12x burner u still burn a cd in less than 5 minut 40x les than 3 minut so there not a big inprovment

and my computer coast me that like 2 year ago

benyhill , in all honesty, its hard for me to take your seriously when you have so many tyops, ignore punctuation, and use capslock every two sentences.

The point of two DVD drives is that one is a normal drive and one is a +RW. I heard its not a good idea to use your writing drive to play cds normally.

Next time, please give me a DECENT argument instead of saying "this is trash, that is trash, do this do that" I want PROOF that something is better then something else alright? So far about the only argument I have seen on this thread to go AMD is that AMD's are cheaper.
