empire earth update problem (not crack problem)
 

I'm having problems installing the 1.4 us patch to the game. When I first got the game (two weeks ago) I lost the cd, so I had to use one of the megagames crack to play the v1 game. I am trying to install the patch from both sierra and other mirrors. I have been able to DL both the ee_1000-1040_ende.exe and ee_1000-1040_en.exe and to extract them to get the setup. It runs the setup then says it can't update due to file size mis-match. The problem is I don't have the cd anymore so I can't try to see if it would update the original file. Even if I had the original file I had errors autoupdating earlier so I don't think it would have worked. Anyhow is 1.4 a significant patch? Is there anyone that had the same updating problem that was able to fix it?

The only way to get the patch to work is using the original .exe since the patch checks CRC filesize. Sorry :(

You lost the CD, eh? o/~ Things that makes you go, hmmm ... o/~ ;)

Seriously now though, that's an InstallShield patch file, unless, you have the right tool (it's available if you look for it) to open the CAB files and extract the new files with which to replace the current game files, your best bet is get a hold of an original cd, and this time, try not to lose it and/or backup the original exe for future patches, etc.

I uninstalled the game...Put my original back in the cd drive and installed. once done I applied the 1.0.4.0 update then used the 1.0.4.0 crack to patch it to use with nocd. You can get that file here http://www.megagames.com/cgi/downloa...L.BACKUPCD.ZIP

READ his post carefully, you see the parts where he says things like "I lost the cd" and "I don't have the cd anymore" that's really a pretty sure indication he can't install it, if he uninstalls it. So your suggestion won't work for this guy.

The patch uses installshield only to unpack the RT Patch professional software update system. Thats the real problem.

I read the part to where he said that he lost it. I was just trying to be helpful and give him a bit of advice when he found his cd again :D

yeah losing stuff is easy when you move to your brothers place for the summer. Anyhow, I'll have to try and open the cab, I think I know a few that can do that, but whats the best program to do it? Thanks all.

Again: I think that wont help since the Installshield just unpacks that other patch engine.

:cool: I know what you mean but we wont be able to be much help until he finds that cd again.

And theres no point in unpacking that file eighter.
