Ricoh MP 7200A CDRW IDE controller problem please please help !
I have just built a new PC System and have just fitted a new IDE Ricoh 20x10x40 MP 7200A CDRW-Writer. As soon as i connect the IDE cable to the MP 7200A Re-writer and boot the PC i get a conflict on the secondary IDE controller ( dual fifo ) in device manager that the MP 7200A CD Writer is connected to as a Slave device. The Ricoh instruction manual says that if i get this problem i need to download some new IDE controllers from the Gigabyte website to which i have downloaded some of the latest IDE controllers from there website that is supposed to be for my motherboard ( Gigabyte GA-8TM ) but they do not solve the problem. Does anyone know where i can find some new IDE controller drivers that might solve this problem please ?? I would like to thank anyone in advance that might be able to help me solve this problem.
System configuration: Pentium 4 1.7Ghz cpu 512 mb Rimms (4 x 128mb Samsung MR16R) Gigabyte GA-8TM Motherboard ( Version 0.1 ) Bios Version 1.00 Manufacturer AMI 40 Gb Fujitsu Hard Drive & 60Gb IBM HardDrive 3D Prophet II MX 64Mb Graphics Card Addon's 12X DVD_Rom |
You should try to connect your cd-writer to secondary master.Slaves can't actually make a cd-writer function efficiently

Just a couple of things to check, as to rule out the unknows..
1. Double-check the jumper settings on your DVD-rom and CD-writer. 2. Have you gone into your BIOS setup facility after you inserted the writer, and 'searched' for the drive? You may have already done these steps. Hope to speak soon. :-) |
Hi SW-212B & Wayniac i have tried the the writer as a slave & a master. And have checked the jumpers on both the drives which seem to be ok. But thanks for your suggestions though i appreciate your help {8) but each time i connect the writer & search for the drive in the bios it just comes up with not installed on both by Hard drives & cd-writer & dvd-drive. but if i remove the CD-writer everything else is detected ok the hard drives are then found & the dvd-rom drive is found also. My motherboard just tells me each time i connect the CD-writer & try and boot the system that the ATAPI is incompatible. This incompatible ATAPI then knocks out my hard drives & DVD-Rom drive. The Ricoh Manual says that if i get this problem during the installation i should download some new IDE drivers from my motherboards website to which i have tried the latest IDE drivers on the gigabyte website that is supposed to be for my motherboard but these have no effect. I have also tried contacting gigabyte but no reply 8( Does any know where to find some new IDE drives for the my motherboard ( Gigabyte GA-8TM ) as gigabyte are useless with there tech support. Thanks again for all your time and any help you can give me to help solve this problem.

You might want to check the CD that came with the mobo to se if it has updated drivers for the ide bus

Hi xoticrox
I have checked the Ricoh Cd through but no IDE drivers anywhere to be found {8( But thanks for your suggestion. |
I think he meant the cd of your motherboard not the cd form ricoh :)

Hi Slats
I had looked at the Motherboard CD-Rom before but could not find any IDE drivers on it. But i just had another look this time going deeper through every sub folder and i found tucked away some UltraATA 6.03.009 drivers i installed them and now my CD writer is now recognised by my system & everything seems to work just fine {8) I would like to thank. SW-212B, Wayniac, xoticrox, & Slats for there time & help with helping me to fix this problem Thanks everyone Webwizard {8) |

Apparently this drive, Ricoh 7200A can do safedisk v2 with firmware 1.10..
as stated on this site and a few others http://www.geocities.com/pcp-freak/4cdfreaks/SafeDisc2.html Slats |
Thanks for the firmware link Slats :) I just done my first CDR burn and I'm amazed at the speed this Ricoh 7200A drive burns a CDR. It just burned a 500mb CDR in about three and a half minutes. My old Hewlett Packard Writer takes up to 60 minutes to burn a CDR with this amount of data. Now i don't know what to do with all that spear time i have ROFL :) Thanks again everyone for all your help it's very much appreciated.
