xbox 360 firmware hack
 

im gettin my 360 tomorrow
i saw there was a firmawre hack found
i was wonderin
what does it do?
anyone know?

The Firmware hack is only out for the xbox currently. The x360 version is not yet released :(

But, if you plan on using xbox live it is pretty much pointless as it will be patched as fast as it's released. Not only that, but your console will probably be banned.

Do you know how MS has those media flags for the xbe's that state what kind of media the game can run off of? Well, it is a play off of that. The firmware bypasses the media check. Basically, everything you insert into the drive is read as an official xbox360 game disk.

However, the rest of the xbox securities are still there. So, it will still check against signed xbe's as well. This means that it is only good to play backups, nothing else. Not only that, but any kind of alteration to the disk data will pretty much distort the signature. Because of this, you have to copy the entire disk, even the null sectors.

You need to do a hotswap with your PC dvd-drive. You need to copy the entire x360 disk and burn the image to a DL-DVD disk. I would really rather wait for a chip.

Garbage is totally wrong to say, IMO it is a great step closer of hacking the console. If some weakness can be found this way I am all into it. If it somewhere down the road gives the ability for custom dashboards, larger HDD's and so on I am not going to complain.

It sure ain't garbage, any day now the hacked firmware will be released to the public, just a matter of time until some normal person does it - not the self rightous toss pots that are currently doing it "just to fun"...

Its a shame that the people that want it are the technically spako people ;)

I remember when people were getting annoyed because you put "Dude" at the beginning of every post. I really couldn't understand why. Formatting is probably the only way someone could show character on the internet.

you hit the nail on the head there quall bud every one has their own style and charateristics, thats what makes reading pages and pages of posts and reply's a little more interesting and believe me the amount of forums i'm on be it as a user or a mod it realy helps to see someones own style and them not just following along with every one else for the sake of it.

this may just be the net but theres always room to show a little imagination and not be a sheep following the crowd

FYI, the x360 hack is around the net.

I don't suggest getting it at all if you have xbl. Besides, it is a hassle to copy games. Worse than the Dreamcast was without the BBA.

Haha I am not trying to pick at someone or piss someone off. I just express a point of view and meant no harm with it... :)

As for the X360 hack, it looks kinda interesting to say the least. Its a good first step forward and could prove being useful sometime. Like allowing a custom installer to run from a DVD-r sometime in the future.

But as I don't have an X360 yet I'll pass this one. But maybe its time to get one before MS counter the hack..... ;)

As for mods and other members I am not the kind of guy treating people differently because they have "mod" somewhere in the title, I treat them just like anyone else. No need to split people in different groups IMO. :D

Also trust me, if I wanted to get banned I would simple post something about "leet torrent downloads here" in the PCgame section... :p

P.S. (On-Topic) Yeah, the method to copy the games is (at the moment) not very "easy" to do... costs a lot of time. BUT it is still a step in the right direction.

yeah I think it is mostly a thread about the hack... for a little while longer atleast. Even though my feeling about the hack its mostly about playing less than legal "backups" on the 360 but I hope the ultimate goal will be to make it possible to run homebrew. Thats what I want atleast. Something along the lines of XBMC on the 360 (yeah insert rant about original dash here) would be sweeet.

Well, this is ultimately a backup forum. Modchips would produce as much piracy as this hack would if not more, but that is a difference story. There is nothing wrong with this thread...piracy wise. It doesn't give links to downloads or ask for help on getting releases to work.

About how simple it is to use and so on a chip sure creates more piracy, but a hack like this has only 1 thing it can do. Play burned games. A chip on the other hand allows homebrew software and the like.

But I see it as a good start, if it turns out to find an exploit in the software I am all for it.. :)

Somebody made a pretty nice tutorial on install a new SST chip to hold the hacked firmware, so you can switch between the 2. It's on X-S.

Or more like: I'll wait until Mass Effect is released and then get into serious business with a sweet 40" HDTV or whatever suits me then and a X360... :)
