Act of War REAL DVD5 Conversion!
 

For those that have BOUGHT the excellent 'Act Of War - Direct Action'.......you will know its a DVD9 disk - 5Gb+...........to back this up.....your kinda stuck if you don't have a DL burner or DL disks!!

Well.....fear not!.........lets get that baby onto a normal 4.7Gb DVD! :D

We do this by removing the 'language' data you don't need........and here is my guide for doin so......... :D

(note - this is to keep the English data only)

1 - Copy all contents of your original DVD to a Temp-Folder on your harddisk.

2 - Goto Video folder and delete all files EXCEPT cutscene_00.avi.....Eng_cutscene_00.wav and mplayerc.exe.

DELETE Language (readme.txt) files from Root.

DELETE Manuals/Acrobat files from Manuals except English.

3 - Download i6comp .

3 - Extract the i6comp to the Art Of War root directory.

4 - Go into the 'release' folder and cut or copy the i6comp.exe and paste it into the root dir of AOW.

5 - Get the cmd prompt up and navigate to the AOW root dir.

6 - Get the DOS fingers out.....copy and paste in the commands listed below................

i6comp d data2.cab 90 datav_fr.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 91 datas_fr.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 92 datav_de.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 93 datas_de.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 94 datav_it.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 95 datas_it.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 96 datav_es.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 97 datav_es.dat

7 - Once this is all done......check the filesize of the whole AOW folder.....it should be about 3.36 GB! :D

8 - Go into the AOW dir and delete all the i6comp folders and files so in total after this is done you should have 23 Items.

9 - Open up WinIso/UltraIso and create an iso of the files and folders.

Burn to normal 4.7Gb DVD!

Works fine and dandy ho!! ;)

I can confirm that this method indeed works. The game installs and plays fine.

It shrunk my installation by nearly 2GB!

Run Setup BOOOMM!!!!

Download the 19Mb patch and add it to the same disk!.......... :cool:

Do We Actually Log Off To Dos Or The Windows cmd Prompt :) :)

If your XP............you will find it easier to get the 'open command window here' powertoy............its a lifesaver m8! ;)

Else........

Start.......Run..........type 'cmd'........and navigate to your directory........ :)

Dont want to be a prude, but ive heard US and UK release of AOW are not multilingual.

That's ENGLISH - FRENCH - ITALIAN - SPANISH - GERMAN

i don´t know why to compile a .iso for testing it. i´ve tried it also (after compiling it to .iso) and i get the crc error too. but installing direclty from the temp dir worked. also the direct ISO burning to a silver worked for me. i bet, that the .iso compiling stuff isn´t working right. i´ve tried magiciso, etc.

I am sorry, but how do u create an ISO image from a DVD9?

Same like DVD5 or CD. Use your favorite burning software like Nero, Alcohol120% or CloneDVD...

If you want to make a DVD5 of the game, just copy the DVD Content to a folder on your hard disk an follow the instructions in first post...

Use the instructions except of deleting the German files in Step 2 and don't use

in step 3.

You should get a version with English and German on a single DVD.

Hi, I followed the instructions at the first part of the thread about making myself a backup of my copy of Act of War. If I try to install the game with my backup I get a CRC error on datag.dat. Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this?

can i play the game without cracking the game?
because i dont see you mentioning about the protection.

Shouldn't be a problem if you have the 'original'??

i will get the original one soon ...

i just dont like to use the original CD to play , ( i can scratch it some how)
so ,. it's really important for me to have a back-up

I did as was the instruction,,,, works like a charm,,,, I only didn't compile any isoz
I just used my nero to name my dvd AOW and transferred all the the files from a folder to a dvd-5 and it worked great.

Thanks a lot for instruction although i burnt a dvd dl :D version too!!!

The language is englisch in the movie !!
I installed AOW from the original AOW DVD on a second computer and there are 2Files in the Root:
datas_de.dat (309MB)
datav_de.dat (89MB)

but i missed this 2files on my first computer.
I copyed the files from pc2 to pc1 and start the game again... and.... IT WORKS !!

hmmmmmmm, but why does the image on pc1 do not install these 2Files... ???? :confused:

In the tutorial there is a missing part, if you launch this command line:
i6comp l data2.cab
you can have listed all the files that are compressed inside the data2.cab file and the 90-97 are only identity code for every different language files of this game.The command i6comp d only delete the selected files.
You can check all the option for i6comp only launch i6comp without other option .
AAaaaaaaaahh good old dos. :D

The command is as follows m8......

i6comp d data2.cab 96 datav_es.dat

i6comp (d - delete) CAB (data2.cab) File No (96) Filename (datav_es.dat)

So we run i6comp and ask it to delete with the (d) switch in CAB File specified (data2.cab) at file number (96) the filename (data_es.dat)

This lists all the files in a particular CAB file.......

how do i get i6comp to open ? i double click it and just get a flsh of a small dos box then nothing..

Thats coz its a command line program!

You will have to run it in a DOS box............easiest way I do it is......download the 'open command window here' powertoy from Microcrap.......install......

Then all you have to do is right click on your directory and select 'open command window here'...........bingo!!.......your in a DOS box....and in the correct directory.......no need to navigate....... :p :D

i installed that program 'open command window here' and i can see when i right click on act of war folder a new option: open comand window here, i click and a MSDOS window open with the folder directoy and now what must i do?

After removing some languages from the DVD, it's very annoying that SETUP is asking you for language selection.

To get rid of it you have to edit the SETUP.INI .

If you leave only one language
change the SETUP.INI from:
[Startup]
EnableLangDlg=Y
...
[Languages]
Default=0x0009
count=5
key0=0x0009
key1=0x040c
key2=0x0007
key3=0x0010
key4=0x000a

to:
[Startup]
EnableLangDlg=N
...
[Languages]
Default=[code for your language]
count=1
key0=[code for your language]

0x0009 english / 0x040c french / 0x0007 german / 0x0010 italiano / 0x000a espaniol

If you leave more than one language (for example german&english)
change the SETUP.INI from:

to:
[Startup]
EnableLangDlg=Y
...
[Languages]
Default=[code for your first language]
count=[count of languages]
key0=[code for your first language]
key1=[code for your second language]
...

i need help, i did it into spanish but when i create a soldier, and select it, he never talk... only make a short cry when die, is it normal or did i do something baD?
