Samsung stick Mp3 player

Hi.............I`m having the same problem too :( I have 512 S1 Mp3 player Samsung Stick, I have also formated, in the hope of clearing out a VBS/Saraci virus that came with the Mp3 player

There seems to be little or no information regarding how to reset the player or even too re-fresh the software/firmware.

The translated user manual is crap, there is a remote upgrade program on the disk, but cannot locate some file called DogRUClt.dll, and the other tool: MP3 Player product tool V3.3 seems to be as useless as a chocolate fire guard.

It seems were stuck till we find the link to an upgrade site

charic 12-01-2005 04:44

Firmware?

Are we the only two who have formatted with disasterous effect :(
My MP3 player is a Samsung stick! no model or serial number although does say MusicStick on the front. If I try to update the firmware using supplied software, the device is not detected and switches off..........then switches back on, after deleting the warning?
Although I say my device is on.........every pixel is on! therefore it appears to be a dark blue/black screen.
Apart from maybe having damaged £30 of MP3 player, and buying a new one, has anyone got any ideas as to where one might be able to find a suitable firmware installer to get this stick up and running again  ?

FatmanUK 14-01-2005 01:53

Make that three of us

I Have another variation of the same player, Same problem. I folloowed the manual to set up a 5 mb encrypted partion and now the MP3 player is duff. I have had no success in finding the missing .dll shown above either, who ever wrote the flasshing program wants shooting ( no shooting is to good for them)...lol.
Any advice would be greatly appreiciated as it worked quite well for the hour i had it. :) :) :)

madmaxx123 15-01-2005 11:55

Four !!

Got mine this morning, broke it by lunch!!!!!!

Same problem, found with mine that when I unplug it from the PC, it stays on for a shot time. If while it is still on I press + Volume button it starts to record.....
Cant do anything else... O and the hold button now works back-to-front....

But no other buttons work.

I'm sure we should be able to re-program them ....

carpetman790 16-01-2005 13:07

i recieved amy mp3 player and have the same problem as you have it worked untill i plugged it into the pc then it wouldnt turn on until connected and then after it justwas the + button that went to record and alsothe block button was back to front please help me someone

Eagle 16-01-2005 14:14

omg !

i can only advise all of you to complain to samsung directly. can't believe this is all just a coincidence.

carpetman790 17-01-2005 10:14

now im getting a headache

well irecieved e mail today from seller He included simple operating instructios(bit late)he says that as run on xp that driver is not required but no explanation on why it wont turn on unless connected to pc or why when unplugged only the + button works he was only interested in saying i have the hold button in the wrong position. After iyesterdays fun i removed battery for a couple of hours and when tried again the hold key worked in original position once then changed agin WHY? someone must have an answer>

by the way mine does not say samsung but looks similar the one in the picture above and is a 512 black digital mp3 player also with no serial number or model name>I bought it on ebay from hong kong.

dmacka 26-01-2005 15:20

Telephoned samsung UK!

Eagle..Hi

I telephoned the UK Samsung offices recently, who advised me to contact Samsung USA? as they would be the ones who would actually produce the chips!!

However, Ive been advised, that without any model number, or name, its gonna be difficult to fix. further investigation, does show that
mine does have a serial number under a BAR Code which reads......J/H:ON512200488 and its says MusicStick on the bottom of the facia.
But still no joy todate. Looks like might have to buy another

Play 27-01-2005 11:05

If you guys bought your players recently, there should be a warranty still pendig. Read the manual carefully, and if it contains that "..can be formatted" or "Formattable", just bring the gadget back to the store, and they MUST replace/repair it, no cost. If it's not, then...well... Phone tech support.
I have a Fujitsu-Siemens MemoryBird 256MB, and the manual contains, that it CAN be formatted, just like regular HDDs. Never tried it though, but there is warranty for this in this case, if i **** something

charic 28-01-2005 08:45

Dont Do It?

At least yours has a Brand name ? Mine says "Japan technology" on the side next to a small 512 indication, and says MusicStick on the front, and is sold as a Samsung memory stick.
My son bought the same stick which came with a VBS/Saraci VIRUS installed.....how cute!! That has been sent back, after we formatted that one to. The seller has asked for it back for investigation,(still waiting for replacement) however, I lost the ability to use mine by trying to copy one to another. seems I uploaded nothing to my MP3 player which has left it useless..Might just have to buy another, put it down to carelessness ? Of the 3 that I bought, only one is still working.the 256Mb.....wont be formatting that one?
That aside.I can still format (FAT) and read write to the stick when its connected to USB, as Drive F: but cant switch the player on when in the hand? Also when in the USB port.the Display is Black, as all pixels are illuminated, so cant read anything?

As you can see my knowledge of firmware is pretty poor...

Ryan

Whoaa matey.thats how I broke one of mine? Thought I`d be able to copy one to the other, using installer on CDROM.........................I must know even less than you about firmware copying!!!!
I bought 3 from ebay.A 256mb still working, and 2 X 512mb, One of which had a virus detected when connected to a Windows ME installation, and the other broke trying to copy, but a great idea, if someone can do us a program to install, with simple ENGLISH instructions? I`m gonna take a digital pic of my actual player and get it on this site soon? but is very similar to the attachment I`ve already provided.

Hi, I've also bought a variation off this player at eBay. I haven't got any problem with him. But, actually I live in Ukraine, so I was searching firmware whis cyrillic languages support. So, I'll be pleased if somebody would give me a link with firmware.
Also i would like to know how were you formating your player? Do you mean, that you did it through Propeties>Servises>Format in Windows? If the answer is yes, it just mean, that you had deleted the mother firmwere. This funtion is possible only if instruction allows it, as Play said, or manufacter contents CD whis special softwere.

flayfl 30-01-2005 09:39

for the guy in Ukraine ... don't even try to do something ..leave it as it is.

for others.....i'm another one with an 512MB broken mp3 player.
The software who came with mp3 player is a crap!?

I am trying to find software wich let you to flash the flash memory card with any firmware from another manufacturers (themp3 players are all same).... i'm sure it will work but i don't know any software for this.
So if anyone can find this kind of software please let me know.
flayfl********com

i found guys on e-bay who change your software but only if you send it to them and not for free.

MusicStick MP3 Player w/USB is sensitive to static (ESD)

Howdy,

The 256MB MusicStick MP3 player device that I bought on eBay from China for $50 worked great when I first got it in early January. I just plugged it into my Windows XP machine and it saw the MusicStick as a new drive. I just coped my MP3 files to the new "drive" and was ready to go.

However, my office is prone to horrendous levels of static electricity, and I zapped the hell out of the MusicStick when I took my jacket off and touched my machine's chassis (with the MusicStick connected via the USB extender cable provieded with the MusickStick). My MusicStick won't even turn on anymore, and the machine now indicates that it cannot recognize the device.

That was the shortest-lived $50 I ever spent. I'd send it back, but (being that the device is directly from China and there was no refund policy or corporate address), its not worth the trouble to try to navigate through whatever return policies might exist. I'm going to eat the loss and upgrade to an iRiver H320 or something with a bit more electronic protection against Electro-Static-Discharge (ESD).

Found some a reset program for an "MP-Ki" which looks identical to the one I bought from ebay.

http://www.mpmaneurope.net/product.aspx?product_id=60

I can't get it to work though. Whenever I disconnect the player, it starts up as usual (i.e. in a broken state in which the controls dont work other than recording voice) rather than performing the firmware upgrade. Any ideas?

Kailee 01-02-2005 14:29

Another Victim

I guess MADMAXXX123 has summed up the condition, I also have a 256MB via Ebay that is now a none MP3 storage device that has a string of zzzzs, will not switch on, via battery, will power on if connected to a pc.
Have tried ' other ' firmware options with no success to date.
Still hopeful that a wizard will 'drop a penny' where are all the wizards?
Now what can I try next???
Good luck to one and all, the answer is out there somewhere, just hope it's in my lifetime...so keep me posted on any fix.

Leepy 04-02-2005 13:21

This site might have the answer.

http://www.dansdata.com/usbmp3.htm#argh

I've a pretty slow connection so it'll take while to download and try the fix tool. If anyone has some success could they let us know!

DrakulaUA 04-02-2005 13:42

O! Thanks for this link..... But now I'm really afraid to do anything whith it....
My player looks almost like first one on the picture.
http://www.dansdata.com/images/usbmp3/both580.jpg
But my firmware is surtenly different so I don't know if it would work on my player (according to all previous posts I think not :( ).
The publisger says that it is based on Samsung flash memory, but I'm not sure if it is true....

Leepy 04-02-2005 14:45

No success! My player wont do anything when I hold down the play button for 5 seconds. If anyone finds any other useful links contained in the previous page, I'd like to know.

Kailee 07-02-2005 03:54

MP3 chip

The chip inside my 'player' is indeed a Samsung. Chip has; Samsung 446, K9F2G08UOM. The other chip is AT J2085, DB081AB 6BP. The case is tricky to open. With the battery out and cover removed there is enough give in the plastic it is a snap fit, start lift from the USB plug end then hinges off lifting from the MODE side first, do not want to break the little snap latches.
The fist cct board is held by 4 screws. The chips are located on this board.
Still no point if you know whats inside now.
Regards to all in pursuit of normal service resumption. K.

Idea that worked for me

Could not figure this player out at first. Finally, I just tried the drag and drop method from the file to the drive the mp3 player was located. It worked! I do use XP and don't think the driver disc was needed. At least this worked for me.

Hi there :) ..............I run the MP3 player in exactly the same way, just drag and drop, works every time, no worries.
However, I`m not sure why everyone is formatting their MP3 players?
There seems to be no reasons given?
One of mine had a virus, so thats the reason I carried out a format. But make sure that its either formatted using the software supplied, or if in Windows, then format it using FAT and not FAT32.........so the Guru`s tell me. That particular player was sent back and replaced by the dealers in HK. :) but trying to fix one player, and trying to copy from another is how I damaged the other (3rd) MP3 Player? :( So now we still have 2 out of the 3 working, but still waiting to get that magic fix! ;)
I`m almost ready to just buy another one and be done with it. When the new one arrives, the slightest problem, I wont try to repair, just send it back. :p

Take care

Hi to everybody,
i have to agree with charic, many people make updates just for the sake of !

my experience tells me that unless you gave serious problems never and never format the thing ! if you havwe serious problems send it back to the vendor !

i have also seen most of these problems happen with the cheapo chinese players from ebay, i myself fell in to the same trap time ago. the advice i give my members LINK is to stay away from these products !

Drag & Drop

Yes, I admit to formatting my MP3 too. My problems start following the Drag & Drop method of transferring music files i.e. "windows" open and moving files directly from `My Documents` to the Removable Hard-drive. The MP3 said `Starting......` and never worked again. The ebay seller fixed it (for a nominal fee) and have since only used Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 10) to transfer files with no problems developing again.
N.B. Ebay seller knows how to fix firmware problems but will not publish.
With reference to WMP 10, just add `Library` music files to `Sync` list and press Start Sync. Files are automatically converted to suit your Removable Hard-drive.
NEVER FORMAT just manage your file with WMP 10, easy!!!! :D

Problem with samsung chip MP3 player

I don't know if this is of help to anyone. I just got a new 512MB MP3 and it started shutting itself off for no apparent reason. I realized that with this player, I had copied multiple folders to it. It can only recognize one directory (besides the root) Once i got rid of the extra directories, it worked fine. For those of you who have formatted, mine was sent to me formatted in FAT16. if you try to re-format make sure you are formatting in FAT16 and not FAT32 or NTFS.

mstrsoul 21-03-2005 07:53

MP3 problems

One other thing. The player will only recognize audio files. make sure you are only copying MP3, WMA files. If you maistakenly drop a text file or video file or executable file it may choke the player.

mstrsoul 21-03-2005 15:01

this is a very interesting link, especialy for the guy form the #25 post.
http://membres.lycos.fr/miniforum/manuel.html
the only problem is that it is in french, but it can be read through bebelfish.altavista.com or something like that
it seems that actually only the nand flash memory of the players is samsung, while the chip that does all the work is "atj2085"

hope it helps

Any advice?

I just bought one of these MP3 player's (the 512 MB on ebay) which everybody seems to be having problems with. I haven't received it yet and was wondering what steps I should take to ensure it works properly. I would really appreciate any advice anyone has to offer.

Hi,

I have just bought a 1GB verion of the XD-18/FM froma guy on ebay. The MP3 player seems to work fine (I HAVEN'T FLASHED IT !!!!) but I do have a question if someone can help me....

It says in the manual that you can put the songs in folders on the device. When I put the songs into folders rather than on the root of the mapped drive it says that there are no music files. If I put a music file on the root of the device and then select to change the folder it only displays ROOT in the folder list on the device I can't see any of the other folders I have put on there. Has anyone managed to get the folders working ?

Regards, Mikeeeee
