Backup Problems with new mod chip
I just went to a pro recently who had installed for me a messiah 2 modchip. At his house he played an original game and a backup game and they both worked fine. I went to my house then and burned a game on a Fuji and Verbatim dvd+r disc since my burner doesnt support dvd-r discs. To my dismay the games didn't work, I used Alcohol 120 and DVD Decrypter. I tried two speeds 2.4x and 4.0x since those are the slowest it will go. Neither works and im getting pissed off, can someone please help me? thanks in advance!

What version is your PS2. Maybe you have a V4 or lower and that's why DVD+R won't work...
Its a 30001-R which means its a V5/V6
Interesting. Maybe your lasers just a bit dirty...
This could very well be beacuse I hadn't used the ps2 a few months because of a few personal issues but why then would it work at his house?
maybe it was more ventalated round ur mates house. I clean the laser lense if i was u

Thanks for the norcalmods guide I have a 5/v6 since i opened up that bay and saw the screw.
I can only burn dvd+r's too
I've been burning dvd+r because my burner only burns +r media. Interestingly though I have a ver 1 ps2 with the slide card and it does play dvd +r media. Sony did replace the laser though. Pretty much collects dust now that I have a v9 ps2 with dms3. But it still works. I don't know how but that ver1 that I have is still alive and kickin.
I went there and i know i have a v5 now because of the screw thing.
@cheryl771,
If Sony replaced your laser then maybe the installed a better laser or something. Thats probably why your v1 is still runnin strong. Tyler! |

How many screws are there in your expansion bay? |
Like any good problem there is a solution and i might have found the solution to mine, i think its the dvd burner, i updated the firmware and by tomorrow around 1 ill be able to report if this did anything. The firmware was supposed to help upgrade the dvd compatibillity along with some errors in nero, hopefully after this everything will be ok if not ill order a pack of ritek and then it shall work for sure(hopefully)
Well, i updated the firmware and still got nothing :-/.
And it really depends on the unit. I've seen v5's that don't like +R, but then again I've seen v3's that love 'em.

Try booting a original dvd movie or PSX backup just to make sure the mod is working. Its possible a wire came loose.
Ok i will try this.
I tried an original dvd and it dint work.
Making a list of here of whats been going on
-------------------------------------- Original DVD NOT working(no data error) Backup PS2 NOT Working(no data error) Original PS2 WORKING |
Insert a dvd movie, then power down the console by holding reset. Restart the console by pressing and holding reset for about 10 sec to disable the chip. If the laser is good the movie should load.
O ok i will also try a psx backup.
Well I tried a psx backup and am pretty sure i did the whole procedure right of how to get it to work but i got that same error i had with the ps2 backup. But the original dvd is working now, maybe still a loose wire?
Yeah could be a loose wire or maybe a dry joint. If you've had one, chances are you'll have another...
Ok, thanks im going to go back to the installer soon to have them check it out.
