Rallisport Challenge 2 problems

Sorry guys, I see someone else posted about the size of the game, but nobody ever answered. Is there some way to reduce the size of the game to fit on a DVD-R?

Also, I have a Maxtor 30G ATA100/7200 HD in my Xbox, and I am unable to lock it. Most of you already know that means I can't turn my modchip off. I am unable to even play RSC2, even from the DVD, without it telling me there is something wrong with the disc. I'm wondering if this is a game that has the protection that looks for the MS Dashboard or whatever, and the fact that I can't turn my modchip off is why this game won't play.

Lee_5 15-05-2004 04:49

I take it that nobody in here has tried to do RalliSport Challenge 2.....I've used PX HDD Loader to put this game on the HD, and it still wont play, I'm getting the same "something is wrong with the disc error"......i FTP'd it to my laptop and tried patching all of the .xbe files, but according to Craxtion, none of them needed patching.

If anyone figures out what is going on here, please let me know.

Try using the latest dvd2xbox 0.5.7

Lee_5 15-05-2004 19:01

thx for your suggestion, but that didn't work either....i'm figuring that Microsoft has finally figured out a way of protecting their games.....OR

as i stated before, my current HD is not lockable.....therefore, i can't turn off my modchip.....it is highly possible there really is something wrong with the disc, but i don't know since i can't turn the chip off to play it normally.

EricCamper 15-05-2004 22:17

I just backed up the disc by deleting some of the tracks from the Location0 dir. If you look at the names of the tracks they are labeled....R1...HC1...RC1... etc.. I assume this stands for Rally, Hill Climb...etc....The games booted and played fine until you choose one of the missing tracks, then you get the dirty disc error....SO....I assume there is no fix for this, since you can't really break them up....UNLESS...you can backup another game with those tracks and switch out the discs...hehe.....In another world perhaps....Just me two cents

Later all

Lee_5 16-05-2004 01:31

i understand your point about the size of the game, and there doesn't appear to be any dummy files on this one.......what i'm talking about is trying to play the game from the hard drive.......i copied it to my Xbox HD and to my PC HD (in case a fix is found later), but I continue to get the dirty disc error everytime........this is a brand new DVD with absolutely NOW marks on it whatsoever.

and here is disc 2

Jay_83 23-05-2004 14:51

Hey ash, how does this work with regards to swapping the discs?

When doing a tournament do you have to watch out for specific tracks or has it been split in a certain way?

ihaveanosebleed 23-05-2004 17:51

Yeah, I can't see that split up working too great! I was thinking something like all counties tracks 1-6 on first CD and 7-12 on second. If career mode loads then in order you might make it half way through the career and then swap. there should be room to overlap quite a few tracks like have 1-7 on CD1 and 5-12 on CD2 or something like that. Or put all tracks 1-6 on the hard drive and play util it stops and tweek the tracks to need swapping at a convenient spot and not error in the middle of a big tour.

Jay_83 24-05-2004 00:21

Sony's new duel layer dvd writer is out now (they're selling it at www.bigpockets.co.uk)

so may invest in one soon when the discs become easily available!

Lee_5 24-05-2004 02:59

the first time i ripped it to the HD, it wouldn't play.....i had ripped it with PX HDD Loader, or whatever it's called......i deleted that one and ripped it again with DVD2Xbox, but it still didn't work.......i turned the modchip off and played the original disc just to make sure the disc wasn't bad.....i left the files on the HD in case a patch came out or something.

i tried playing it a couple nights ago, and it worked just fine.....not sure if playing it from the DVD and getting a game save on the HD had anything to do with it, but i doubt it.

AshleyWalls 24-05-2004 03:10

what happens is you have all the default stuff for the disc to boot ie default.xbe and such and when it says dirty disc error when loading a track thats not on the disc you using you load up the other disc and continue on.

God bless auto save after every race :)

Lee_5 24-05-2004 03:27

yea, but why even bother playing it from the disc? wouldn't it make much more sense to use DVD2Xbox to rip it to the HD, the FTP it to your PC, and only burn it on a DVD for backup purposes in case your Xbox's HD fails or something? Then you would just simply put the discs in and rip them back onto the HD in the Xbox. Loading is so much quicker when running from the HD anyway. I guess if you were using a modchip and haven't replaced the HD, then you'd want to play it from the disc, but as cheap as HD's have become, it wouldn't make much sense to not put an 80G+ in your Xbox.

Lee_5 24-05-2004 03:35

Something else, it seems to me that 5.7G is rather large for a racing game. I mean, the game has awesome detail and stuff, but i'm still not convinced it would be this large.

I looked at all the files and it seems that Microsoft has done 1 of 2 things. They either used absolutely no compression on any of the files like most companies do, or they added "dummy.bin" type of stuff to each and every file before they compressed them.

If it is my second theory, it means someone would have to create a tool to uncompress each file 1 at a time, get rid of the excess stuff, and then recompress it to a smaller file. That would be a lot of work though, and like i said, you'd really only need to burn it to disc for back up purposes. It's much better to play from the HD.

kupal 28-05-2004 06:52

Do you have IGR turned ON?

Lee_5 31-05-2004 12:22

now all of the sudden my RalliSport Challenge 2 doesn't want to play from the HD any longer........i'm getting the dirty disc error again

all of the IGR's are turned off....i'm just wondering if Microsoft has included something that checks the internet whenever u launch the game, and if your system is playing from the HD, they put a file in that causes your game not to work?

something like if you use CloneCD with a keygen and then go to their site and update it......something happens to your registry that prevents you from being able to use CloneCD any longer.

Lee_5 31-05-2004 16:20

nevermind....i fixed it.

i had left the Xbox unplugged for over a day because of storms and such in the area.....never turned the Xbox back on with the modchip turned off, so i forgot all about the clock needing set again......after i set the clock, the game played fine.

Hi..All this is my first post on this forum... :D Looks like a great place to learn some great tips... :)
I have just got hold of a backup of Rallisport 2,on two DVD's..I have had the same problem I kept getting a "Disk Damaged or Dirty Error Message"
I have found out that starting with the latest 007 release there is some form of protection on the DVD's..??? I have slayers Auto evox installer installed on my xbox, which includes a Tool called Enigma Video switch(This allows switching between NTSC/PAL Output's).. I found that the first time I played Rallisport2 my xbox was set to PAL(Region),I palyed a few levels and the got the error message..I decided to switch my region to NTSC(using The Enigma tool)I think Region-X does the same thing.. The game now runs great...No error messages.. :D :D I am told that this procedure will bypass the protection now applied to releases..

Please feel free to correct me if what I have posted is a load of crap :o ..!! I'm a newbie...starting on that big learning curve... :o

Hope this does help...

You might want to try and check to see if your date and time settings are correct. Also, make sure IRG's are off. Just a couple of suggestions, as i haven't experienced this problem myself or my friend.

I basically used dvd2xbox to rip the game to HD and it worked fine first time, and still does.

katlad 14-06-2004 09:05

I have copied this game with Dvd2xbox 0.57 to my 80gig drive & so far it works like a treat.
