"AnyDVD" Question
Just read about AnyDVD and I am hoping that someone can help with a brief description of how to use the program before I attempt to download it.
From what I have been able to read on the forum it sounds as if I need another program to actually create the backup copy on my DVD burner. Any suggestions about which program to use. Thanks so much for any help you can provide. LGS |
I like to use AnyDVD with CloneDVD.
It gives good results. It may take a while but it is worth it. |
Basically Anydvd, when installed runs itself in the background of your pc. All it does is disable the flags on your drive that tell it the movie dvd is copywrite protected.
When used with other programs such as CloneDVD you can just rip and compress your dvd on the fly. Tyler! |
Tyler & Andy . . . .
Thank you for the information. I checked the CloneDVD site and found that they have a beta version available for download. It appears that the final version, which will not be free, should be out some time this year. Sorry if this is such an inane question, but I am a real novice in this area, and I appreciate your patience. With AnyDVD do I just copy the DVD to my hard drive and then use that new file to burn a DVD with CloneDVD. Thanks again, LGS :) |
Make sure you get the CloneDVD from this site:

O K ! ! !
Downloaded CloneDVD and AnyDVD and tested the combination on one of my original DVD movies. It worked perfectly. It is a little slow, but since there is no intermediate action required I simply placed the original in my DVD Reader drive and a blank Ritek DVD-R in my Sony DRU-500AX recorder. The process went from READ to WRITE and completed the task without intervention by me. The result was a perfect copy. Thanks for the help. LGS |
One word of caution on AnyDVD.
The program, by default, launches when the computer boots and remains in the background. In that condition my Veritas "Record Now DX" will not function properly; apparently there is some kind of interaction between the two programs. However, if you right click on the little "fox" icon that the program places in the system tray, a popup menu allows you to disable automatic launch at boot. The program can be launched at any later time by double clicking on the "fox" icon which the program places on the desktop when it is installed. LGS |
I dont know about that man, I always have AnyDVD running and I also have RecordNow DX. No problems as of yet. But if your having probs go ahead and turn it off.

FOLLOW-UP
After trying the AnyDVD/CloneDVD combination several times, I have to conclude that it is an excellent process which provides outstanding results. :) Just wish they weren't so expensive . . . . $78.00 for the combination. But, with DVDXCopy now declared illegal, I suppose the cost is reasonable. ;) LGS |

Where did you hear that? Tyler! |
I think he means the U.S. court case that made 321 studios remove the part of the program that bypasses copy protection.
Can't honestly see many people buying the new version, unless they know about AnyDVD. |
Tyler -
This from the "321 Studios" web site. "NEWS If 321 Studios is unable to stay the recent injunction against DVD X Copy, a new version of the popular DVD duplication software may soon be available--minus a key component: the descrambler that allows users to create viewable copies. Although the company plans to appeal the latest ruling, it will follow court orders that were handed down on Friday from District Judge Susan Illston. Specifically, 321 Studios is required to stop producing "... or otherwise trafficking in any type of DVD circumvention software." Also being removed from the proposed new version of the software will be some good faith features 321 Studios had installed, such as embedded disclaimers declaring a DVD is a copy, and the inability to re-copy a copied DVD." Thanks for the tip. The URL you suggested was linked to another which provided detailed instructions and explanations. :D Regards, LGS |
Where can I get AnyDVD cheap... if possible free?
|
Tim -
You can get a "trial" version which expires in about 3 weeks from SlySoft. It is not free anywhere, as far as I know. I paid $38.00 after my trial period. It is well worth the price IMHO. lugesm |
Okay, its been awhile for me. But i use DVD Decriptor, then Clone DVD. Been that way since Clone DVD came out.
Is there is a bonus side to using Any DVD insted of DVD Decriptor? |
Sorry. I have no experience with Decriptor. My experience with the AnyDVD/CloneDVD combination has been flawless.
Perhaps someone else could make a comparison. |
I prefer DVD Decrypter because by putting dvd files into HDD first, your dvdrom doesn't need to spin all the time and will get a longer life, besides transcoding procedure will done faster if you have fast HDD.

I preferr using AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. I have my pc set up with an external DVD Reader (whose laser I could care less about) and my new AO7.
It takes me a grand total of 50 minutes, nonstop to extract, compress, and burn a dvd. Other than the initial setting up of CloneDVD2, I dont even have to touch my computer for less than an hour to finish my dvd backup. I intend to cut that time in by another 1/4 by getting my 4x media in the mail. Tyler! |
DVD43 which you can get here is basicly the SAME THING as AnyDVD but, its free.

Ill look into that. But so far I noticed it doesnt work with Win95/98/ME. Tyler! |
Here are the requirements and features of AnyDVD:

System Requirements * IBM compatible personal computer with a 500 MHz Pentium and 64 MB RAM * Windows 95/98/SE/ME/2000/XP * Harddisk space needed: 2 MB Tyler! |

I know. I was just pointing out that one of the negatives with that program is that it doesnt support those OS's. It also says that it doesnt get rid of Macrovision, which AnyDVD indeed does.
