Playing backup DVDs

I got DVD x Copy and upgraded to the latest version. Well, the problem is, I burned a couple of DVDs and they won't play on my ps2 or any dvd player in my house... but it will play in the dvd drive in my pc. Can anyone tell me how to burn the dvds so they can be played on all my dvd players.

My dvd burner is the:

Sony DVD+RW/DVD-RW/DVD-R/CD

bighap 19-01-2003 08:52

Under the advanced options, what options did you use?

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 08:57

I used both options....standard and advanced

bighap 19-01-2003 09:08

No, under the advanced options, what were the settings you used?
Player Compatibility:
Standard (ISO/UDF) or
Alternate (UDF)

and
DVD Burn Engine:
Default Burn Engine or
Alternate Burn Engine or
External Nero Program

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 11:25

Oh ok... I tried using Standard (ISO/UDF) and
Alternate (UDF)

External Nero Program 5.5

bighap 19-01-2003 15:13

Are you using cheap media?

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 15:32

what do you mean by cheap media??
what should I have in order to burn dvds so they can play on stand alone dvd players

bighap 19-01-2003 15:51

The ps2 and some dvd players can be picky when it comes to dvd media. Name brands like Verbatim and TDK are good. Ritek are also very good.

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 16:40

when you say "media" you mean the burner and software??

bl0kedownthepub 19-01-2003 16:47

i have no sorrow for u he means DVDR's they are R's arent they???lol

later im off down the pub;)

bighap 19-01-2003 19:26

Yes media as in the blank discs you are recording to. What brand are they?

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 20:57

Oh ok....I got some Memorex and sony they are both dvd+rw

bighap 19-01-2003 21:44

What is the brand and model of your dvd player and the version of your ps2? If you don't know the version of your ps2, you can check here

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 21:50

PS2 version is 4. My stand alone DVD player is a sanyo. Is there any way to tell what format a DVD is.... I mean if it's a dvd+ or a dvd-
All the blank dvd disks are all DVD+RW

bighap 19-01-2003 21:57

Your v4 probably won't play your +rw discs. What model is the Sanyo dvd player? -r media is compatible wih many more devices.

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 23:08

The burner is the
Sony DVD+RW/DVD+R/DVD-RW/DVD-R/CD+RW/CD-RW
DRU-500A

So you think the problem is the DVD+RW disks that I am using, I should use DVD-RW?? Thanks for the help yall.

bighap 19-01-2003 23:11

No not your dvd burner, your dvd player, the Sanyo, what it the model? V4 ps2's rarely play +r/+rw media.

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 23:17

Oh sorry... the dvd player is a Sanyo vwm-400

bighap 19-01-2003 23:24

You sure? I looked it up and it says that model is a vcr! Do you have AOL Instant Messanger? If so IM me at FileForumsGod.

sorrowstealer 19-01-2003 23:34

LOL...sorry about that. I was looking at the box for the VCR. My wife has all kinds of electronic boxes...lol. I am still trying to find the box that the dvd player came in. For some reason, the modle is not on the dvd payer itself.

bighap 19-01-2003 23:36

If it is not on the front of the player it has to be on the back.

sorrowstealer 22-01-2003 12:32

The DVD player is the Sanyo DWM 380

bighap 22-01-2003 12:36

+r/+rw support for your player is unknown but it does support dvd-r.

bighap 22-01-2003 12:41

According the Walmart your player supports DVD-R, MP3, CD-R, and CD-RW

sorrowstealer 22-01-2003 12:53

I got me a couple of DVD-RW (Verbatim). I copied a dvd, placed it in the dvd player it said "reading", then it showed the play symbol, but it wouldn't start the move. It just saied at the Sanyo screen.
I copied it using:
Standard (ISO/UDF)
External Nero

bighap 22-01-2003 12:58

Supposedly your Sanyo doesn't support dvd-rw. Try a dvd-r.

sorrowstealer 22-01-2003 13:08

this may be a stupid question, but what is the difference in DVD-R and DVD-RW? I thought that the only diffence was, that with the -RW you could rewrite over data. As you can tell, I am pretty new with media. thanks for all your patience.

bighap 22-01-2003 13:13

That basically is the only difference. But many devices that support dvd-r don't support dvd-rw. It is like cd-r and cd-rw, tons of things play cd-r but don't support cd-rw.

sorrowstealer 22-01-2003 13:17

Thanks for the all the help, I guess tomorrow when I get off work, I will be going to get myself some DVD-Rs.

bighap 22-01-2003 13:21

No prob. :) If possible get Verbatim. They usualy cost a little more but if Verbatim doesn't work most likely nothing will.

sorrowstealer 22-01-2003 14:59

Yeah... I bout 2 Verbatim DVD-RWs, I will get the DVD-R hopfully tomorrow.

ixmusiqxi 24-01-2003 14:22

man i have the exact same problem as u.... i use a dvd+r to back up my movie. It plays on the sony dru500a but it does not work on my dvd player or ps2... and my ps2 do play dvd+r games... thats sux... how do i get it working too..?

sorrowstealer 25-01-2003 15:13

They told me to use DVD-R. They said that most DVD players and version 4 PS2 play only DVD_R. I am gonna try that tomorrow when I go to Compusa

BG 26-01-2003 15:15

Curious.......

Check the discs you two guys have burned and see if there is a AUDIO_TS folder in it.......

sorrowstealer 27-01-2003 06:09

yeah, it has an AUDIO_TS

sorrowstealer 29-01-2003 14:42

I just got some TDK DVD-Rs, and I burned a movie. It's still not playing in my stand alone dvd player. I looked at the burnt copy and it has and AUDIO_TS file... what is this for?? and could you help me to understand why I can't veiw any burnt dvds on my stand alone player. the box said it supports dvd-r.

bighap 29-01-2003 14:47

Have you tried both standard and alternate options and internal and external burning methods? AUDIO_TS is necessary for correct dvd playback.

sorrowstealer 29-01-2003 14:56

I just upgraded DVDxCopy and it doesn't give you the option to switch to standard or alt. The DVD does play on my PC.

bighap 29-01-2003 15:01

Sounds like your dvd player doesn't like dvd-r after all. :( I would go to Best Buy and test out some dvd players with your burnt discs you have made.

sorrowstealer 29-01-2003 15:02

I guess that is what I am gonna have to do. thanks for the help.
